Help guys!!... So where I am we are due snow in a few weeks... My setup is in my attic.. the roof (uninsulated) I'm running a 600w hps... Will this melt the snow??.. 5 neighbours have the same roof and are all attached..any suggestions?

start digging a basement :smoking:
good luck n keep er lit
:pighug:

Sounds like a problem mate... I'd get some cheap leds for when its snowy... sunny days plug the hps back

Wait.. What? Are you asking if a 600w hps generates enough heat to melt snow on the outside/outer side of an uninsulated roof in the winter? No.. The answer is no.. And depending on how big the attic is, you may not even be able to get the temps to stay in the 80s without insulation during winter months. You may even need a space heater.

I really hope so ... Its vented into the attic as I can't vent it outside cause then there will be steam.. Nor can I vent it into the house

Wait.. I'm super confused now, lol. Please explain you situation a little better. Based on your current post, it sounds like you are using a 600w hps in an attic, and then asking if it will get hot enough in the attic to melt the snow that's outside and on the roof.. But now it sounds like you're only talking about/asking about "venting" the 600w hps into the attic.. Two completely different things... Neither one will get hot enough to melt the snow that is outside on the roof. If you are currently venting into the attic, think about it this way.. It's only going to get colder in the attic. The venting temp right now in the attic is as hot as it will get. It will only get colder in that non insulated attic as snow and winter come about.

My tent is in the attic and it's vented just out of the tent into the attic not outside or into the house underneath... I'm just concerned that it will stick out a mile compared to the neighbours houses

Ahhhh, that makes more sense. And in that case, I still stand by my answer, lol. What ever the max temp gets to right now, is the hottest it will get. Temps will only drop from this point on.. You definitely won't be melting any snow outside.

Now when you say "stick out a mile compared to the neighbors houses" what do you mean. Because Im thinking that the tent is in the attic, being vented into the same space (attic) and not outside or underneath, just as you stated. But this "sticking out" concern makes me think you're venting it out of a window or somewhere that other people can see it.. Is that the case? Because if so, that's a completely different concern and is more of a stealth issue than a heat concern, lol. Sorry. Just trying to help.

No what I mean by " stick out a mile" is that if the smoke melts it will looks very strange

Hey buddy I had a friend last year run 2 x 600’s in his loft and it didn’t melt the snow so you should be fine.
