Why does the pH rise in my nutrient solution?

I stumbled across this the other day where I happened to have some mixed megacrop solution left which I'd pH'd to 6.5, so after a few days I went to use the remainder up but thought I'd measure the pH just out of interest expecting it to still be 6.5 but it had risen to 8. Does anyone know why this happens and would it also be happening in the soil?

There can be many chemical and biological reactions going on. In mixing nutrients for my reservoir I use water from a top-off tank that is aerated constantly. this helps to precipitate some of the calcium carbonate. It raises PH when the calcium carbonate falls out of solution. Kelp will allow a colonization of microbes to begin growing that can raise or lower PH.

I do not know all of the possible things going on but it is a nearly universal observation.

You should fertigate at the proper PH going in. After that the buffering capacity of the soil "should" take over.
