Hey all, I read this thread (https://www.autoflower.org/f44/when-harvest-autos-your-leaves-will-tell-you-4889.html) and was set on waiting until the fan leaves turn yellow, at least a little bit. But I keep seeing so many grow journals on here for autos that do not have yellow leaves when they're harvested. Just wanted to do a sanity check to see how many folks use the fan leaves as a guide and how many do not, and why.

Pics from this morning

I personally keep an eye on the fan leaves while checking the trichomes with a magnifying glass (or a microscope if you have one).
The trichomes are clear at first and become milky after that. If you harvest at this point you'll get a more clear head high.
After this the trichomes turn amber. The more amber trichomes the more stoned your high becomes. I think most people harvest at 50% to 80% of amber trichomes.
The fan leaves personally I watch to tell me how much longer the plant will go. Hopes this helps and that the pro's will step in with better advice :)

It works fine but if you want the best that your plant is going to give, use a magnifying glass to look at the trics as Reed said. Personally I go for 30-40% amber trichs.

Excellent. I've got a couple loupes and I can do some macro lens shots with my Nikon to keep an eye on things. So far no amber trics showing.

Found you a picture that I think shows it well, but there are many more of these examples:

oops, thought it was a bit smaller pic. Ah well :dunno:

Thanks! Interesting bit about higher CBD if you let them go more amber. I haven't read that anywhere else.
