New Grower When is Day one?

Is there unspoken rule on when exactly we call a plant 1 day old? I just started a new FastBuds grow and was wondering when you guys call it day 1. I've called day 1 the first day they get their first set of true leaves. Is it when they crack open? Break the surface of your medium?

To each their own but I call day 1 the day the sprout breaks the surface of it's grow media i.e. soil or root cube.

that is a very good question! i was wondering the same thing, not that it makes a difference but it makes me wonder when people number a day and my plant on the same day is half the size. Well i call day one when i put the seed in the soil.

You will find yourself behind the 8 ball using "Day 1" as the day you put your seed in soil due to the massive time difference in germination and sprout time.

Example.....some growers place the ungermed seed straight into soil. This could take up to a week for the seed to sprout and be above the grow media. Let's say that is your method. While I call "Day 1" the day the sprout is standing above the grow media. Now fast forward 14 days. I am on "Day 14" while you are only on "Day 7". There will be a huge difference in plant size of course.

I had the same question last year and most all agreed that the day it popped the surface and shed it's shell was day 1. I think something was also said about when it receives it's 1st light???

So my day one has been a bit late compared to most. I'll start using the day it breaks the surface and sheds its casing as most of you are. tyvm
