While I feel I can roll with the best of them and have also cooked up some pretty tasty cannabis concoctions in the kitchen, I have no hash experience. I pretty sure it'll be the next frontier for me, but with so many techniques out there I thought I'd ask you what your preference was....

Dry shift? Dry Ice? Bubble hash? Ethanol? Cold ISO? BHO?

And now that I think about it, I'm not aware of an "Auto Hash" plant. Is there one? If not, which would you suggest, or is your fave? Hindu Kush? Snowberry? I've seen pretty resiny examples of both.

I may have missed some others, feel free to add to both the extraction techniques and strains. I look forward to your input and my future hash stash. Help me keep it sticky, AFN!

This is a post from Bailer I have saved. I've used it to make Hash - the only difference is I use Everclear 191 or Graves Grain 191 as opposed to ISO.

FROM HERE DOWN IS ALL BAILER'S WORK, THE MAN IS A GENIUS WITH THE HASH AND WHILE THE METHOD WON'T PRODUCE THE BEST WEIGHT IT WILL PRODUCE THE HIGHEST QUALITY PRODUCT IN MY EXPERIENCE !

Hey fellas. Here is my Cold Extraction method. This is how you get what has been called Amber, Cherry, Honey Oil. It's the highest quality extraction method i have found. You keep the terps intact and don't get as much of that ISO taste in the end product.

Extraction and hash is how i used to earn my keep at a time. So i have had the pleasure to hone my skills. I want to share with you what i call the best ISO extraction method.

First. Before anything!!
Use ONLY GLASS! Anything metal will shed material into your solution, we don't want metals in the smoke do we?

Before you even start the process.

Put your ISO in the freezer, i let mine sit in there a minimum of 4 hours. You want the alcohol to look thick when it pours. Or more viscus. The idea of the cold ISO is to shock the plant matter when it hits it, So the only thing that gets released into the ISO are the trichs from our buds.

The material. You want the highest grade material you can find. Shit in = shit out, just more refined shit. For example the trim and buds from "big bud" are going to make a lesser quality oil than an OG kush, or any other big name brand of pot.
I keep the scraps from rolling joints and innar stems from buds, and only sugar leaves from trimming. Big fans/stems get put into the compost.

Next, DO NOT, bust up or crush or make your material into powder. You will do nothing but pull ALL the chlorophyll from the material, giving yourself "Green oil" Which we don't want, we want that amber goodness.

Next, after you have poured in your chilled ISO. Let it sit no more than a hour. Only a few minutes is ideal, however if you do feel the need to let it sit. Put your jar back into the freezer, it will slow the extraction of chlorophyll. Again don't let your mix sit long, the longer you let it sit the more green and dark it will get. Which are nothing more than impurities.

The condensation tells you how cold this is. I let it sit out in -24'c for a hour.

Next, extraction of our ISO from the mix. I use one single bounty sheet. You want it to pour fairly fast, once the ISO starts to heat up you will pull out the "greens" much much faster. Degrading your quality. You also want to clean your pyrex glass bowl with some ISO and some bounty. Clean in - clean out.

This is what you are left with. I don't squeeze out my material, as i am not trying to get the greens. I only want the THC glands themselves. You will also at this stage have an idea of what quality you produced. The redder the better the greener and darker the lesser the quality. Don't fret if your ISO solution isn't very red, and is sort of clear. This means you have pulled only the heads from the THC glands. You are in for a ride, this oil is the utmost highest quality. Often times it will dry up to a blood red color.
You do NOT want to boil off the ISO. Let it sit in a dark place or under a fan.

Three or four days under a fan will net you this result. If you can't read a paper through it you need to cool the iso more or lessen the time you let your mix sit before you extract the ISO.
You can scrape it up and ball it at this point or you can put it into vials for long term storage. If you have not boiled it or exposed your ISO to heat. You will have extracted the terps intact, and your Amber won't taste like ISO you will taste the buds you used for your amber material.

Cold is the key!

I started with about a quarter pound of scraps. I got around 10/12 grams of the purest of the pure!!! This is high dollar stuff right here.

I will also add, if you are the type of person that thinks you wasted THC with a quick wash, pour some ISO back into your material let it sit a few days. You will get some "oil" but there is little to no THC left in it. Your basically smoking impurities.

i do a dry icd sift with bubble bags then i put the kief in the pipe and run butane through the keif and its some of the best if done since the early 80s. it only takes a few pin drops on a nail or the essential vaape o2 and i dont need to medicate for hours:bong:

Thanks to the both of you. I appreciate your responses.
Whatsgoodie, I've heard cold extraction can yield contaminated oil, but yours looks amazingly amber. I'll be giving your method a try.
Dirtybongwater, the method you described sounds like it may be one of the more efficient run techniques I've heard of. If I grow the stone to make a BHO run, I'll def try your method.

Thanks again you both

I only make hash from ethanol. Ethanol is naturally formed compound found in nature. We all consume it every time we have an audlt beverage.

Dry shift?
Never had the patience or time to go this route routinely. Did it many, many, years ago and for some reason it took me forever and my results wern't what I wanted.

Interesting technique, but the cost of dry ice has kept me away from trying it. Besides, what I do works for me, so I stick with it.

Bubble hash?
I have friends that do this. Good results, but I feel its very wasteful and time consuming. This would be my second choice as a recomendation. I have taken their scraps and made some ethanol oil from it. Proof to me that it is very inneficient. I'm a cheap bastard and want every scrap of thc for my oil!

Its the only way I roll. I go cold extraction. Easy to do, and safe for your system. We have all drank some alcohol beofore......safe in, safe out.

Cold ISO?
My third choice, but iso can harm you if you ingest it. Yes, it should all be evaporated, but the reality is not everything is as pure as it states, and impurities are left behind after evaporation.

As a scientist myself, you couldn't pay me to smoke something made from Butane. Most everyone does it, and my opinion is they are absoutly crazy! It is a dirty fuel with all sorts of nasties in it. The affordable stuff you buy in bulk is not very clean. The good stuff is expensive as hell and there is still no gurantee its pure....just clean"er" than the cheaper stuff. But to each their own.

I have my own ethanol system that I like. I go cold extracton (freeze the bud and freeze the alcohol overnight). Get out pan, jar and filters. Put bud in mason jar, add alcohol to the top. Seal - shake for 15-20 seconds. Pour into re-useable coffeee filter - let flow ito another mason jar (This separates the plant material). Then put a non-bleached normal coffee filter on top of the "filtered" jar and screw on the "canning" cap w/o the lid so the coffee filter is the lid. Then pour into a pyrex dish - note this takes time; like several minutes. When done, place the dish somewhere so it can evaporate. After it is evaporated, freeze the dish and scrap w/ razorblade.

I also re-fill the first mason jar (with spent bud still in it) with ethanol, and let it sit for several days and repeat the process. With this, I make green dragon tinc.... In the end, almost no waste! I'm sure everyone else has their own technique.

Cold ISO - is using Isopropyl (sp?) Alcohol instead of Ethanol. ISO alcohol is found in the pharmacy portion of big box stores or at beauty supply centers. Very easy to buy. If you can't find it locally - buy it online.

Keep it in the freezer overnight and it won't freeze, but gets extremely cold. Simply put; it is a solvent.

I plan on trying the dry ice method very soon. I'm near the end of harvest and will have a couple pounds of leaf, trimmings, and unsellable bud.
If anyone has tried this method and has some pointers please let us hear from you.
I'm still a little unsure what micron bag I should use. Or if I should shake with multiple bags. The video I saw I think they used 2 different micron bags.

I just did the dry ice method this weekend. It worked really well. I had to by a 6 lb. block of ice,no smaller packages, but it was only ten bucks. I shook about 3/4 lb. of trim and junk and yielded 28 grams of some very good hash, the method is a bit loud but it works great.
