What’s the best brand of soil to use, please include the name of product not just a composition make

The best soil is the soil you dial in yourself. I like to build my own, but there are a few brands I use as a base soil or for starts.

Roots organics makes a great soil, just make sure to PH it and add compost/lime as a buffer if needed.

I tend to stray away from anything Fox Farm as the last four bags I bought PHed at around 4.3 :nono:

Check out the organics section to learn about building your own soil from scratch, or how to build up a store bought soil to be where you need it.

Which soil is the "best" is purely subjective, but Fox Farms is certainly the most popular brand. Fox Farms Light Warrior is nutrient-free and made just for seedlings. Fox Farms Happy Frog is a medium-nutrient soil, good for young plants. Fox Farms Ocean Forest is heavy in nutrients. When using Ocean Forest, most people can get well into the flowering stage before they need to add nutrients of their own.
I make a tiered layer of all 3 soils so that the plants grow into the nutrient levels they can handle.

mmm, me agree bout "the best" bein a widely subjective thing, lol, but fer what it'z worth or not, me on me second grow & am usin jus straight fox farms ocean forest...and well, all me know is me 2 30-day old NL girlz are indeed luvin it! and might i add that me don't uze any nutez, rechargerz, or rocket boosterz of any kind...jus the dirt & distilled molassez water and/or rainwater  hell, me never even check the ph of anything  well, mebbe once :rolleyes2: next time tho, me gonna do a 50/50 mix of ocean forest & happy frog, with mebbe a lil added perlite...again, jus my 2 ctz  ppp

I've been a coco user for nearly 5 years and recently started about half my small tent, 5 plants, using straight (no added perlite) Great Lakes Water Only Soil, from Detroit Nutrient Co. Now at start of bloom, all plants are doing well (as well as on AN or MegaCrop as base nutes), other than 2 darker green (more N) than I'd like, but still no browning of tips and only 1 or a few leaf tips are downturned, so presumably not a problem. This soil is available in the U.S. from the nationwide HTG Supply stores, and other sources.

I went with this soil after seeing some positive comments on AFN. But what clinched going with this, rather than say a Roots soil, was that I searched and didn't find any substantive complaints or negative comments, which I presume is rare and indicates to me likely quality for any such critically-important grow product. If it didn't work well, that would be easily noticeable.

Hey dude, interesting post! As I'm in sunny Down Under Land, I don't have access to certain things...

Would you mind running your educated eyes across this product and let me know What you think?

Anything I'd need to add? Ratios look okay? I believe it's (unofficially) formulated for Canna. Thanks!

Miracle grow organic potting mix. Add 25% perlite. Just did my first dirt plants in three gallon bags. Fed twice through entire grow with light dose of Megacrop. Probably could have top dressed with organic but was just trying it for fun. Even if you don’t have the nerve to do s whole run it would be cool to run it against the others. Available at all the big box stores in the US for $8. Make sure you get the potting mix and not the soil mix. It’s a green bag, no time release or any of that crap. Organic potting mix. It might have a brand name like natures organic but the MG tag is in the bottom.

And for all those that want to pretend like they hate supporting big corrupt companies you can preach when you stop putting gas in your car or buying ANY food.

MG organic for my vote. I plan on reusing and reammending it with my LOS for next years dirt girls and vegetables. Nice cheap base

As I noted, I am just trying soil for the 1st time and went with what liked like a safe choice as a a good basic/generic organic/living soil (plus it was what the local hydro shop sells). What you cited looks to be composed of much the same ingredients. When I see any deficiencies, I will likely just start supplementing with MegaCrop until the plants protest.
