Watts per sq ft. How many watts in your grow space

Kudos BluTri...
I grow for CBD...and like most med growers, I aim for quality first.
You're perfectly right about the variables.
Including pheno's ...some are reading this asking what the hell a pheno is.
And this is a sad reality.
We have all kinds of funky marketing names for cannabis.
When truth be told, there are a handful of landrace sativas and Indicas.
99% of everything else is a hybrid of one kind or another.
Now, mix that with Ruderalis which is my badass plant to grow.
It is the heart of ALL autos at the root level( no pun intended).
Again , most growers don't have a clue about what a Rudi is...let alone the pheno's of Ruderalis...
This is what I appeciate about this site.
Many are wood butchers..
Some are actual craftsmen in the art and science of growing POT.
Good writing Sir, as I hand you the pen back.
You know these dog and cat breeders that do competitions, select a master male dog and then breed with it. Some are so inbred so all of the cats and dogs of same breed in same country has the same dude on the male side of the family tree, they all suffer from the same rare disease and these dogs are no matter what selected as master dogs and taken to other countries and bred so the whole breed suffer the same and then they say it's natural for the breed to suffer like that. I think weed suffer of the same breeding mentality and that we grow the plant in weird ways and think it's normal.

thank you @GeorgeCloney. @Disburped. Good point. What do you think about this. Let’s say we buy a 10 pack of regular seeds. Let’s say we throw them all in a field and all 10 grow to maturity. Now we have 5 males and 5 females breeding. Wouldn’t it be say to say that every female will produce seeds from each male. Those seeds fall to the ground and repeating the process. This would make wild cannabis very genetically divers. Except for 2 factors. 1st, they all came from the original 10 seeds. Therefore they all carry the original genes. 2nd factor is isolation. The original gene pool will continue to stack on itself until there is some interaction with another gene pool. Humans, animals, mutations. An organism has to be successful in its environment for Nature to allow it to continue to reproduce. Mutations is the first stage that something ain’t right... followed by stage 2... death. That’s why cannabis smells like so many different things. It temps animals to eat it’s sweetness, and then be be carried off safely in the animals digestive tract to the next feeding hole.. now guess what....We have an entirely new patch of weed. But it’s really the same weed. If it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be able to breed with the original weed at all. ! So yess it is all the same.... whoever isolation and breeding practices make it different. Smoke something. not my dogs.

Blu_Tri..
You have one of the ugliest fuck'n dogs I have ever seen
I've had 2 pugs, an American Bull dog, a Cane Corso, and now working on getting a bull mastiff.
(So maybe, just say'n we have something in common:cheers:).

Most of these dogs have come about because of selective breeding.
In the case of the pugs, the Chinese have been working on this breed for roughly 3500 years!!!!!

I think in the case of cannabis, its a little different.
Plants have evolved through millions of years of adaptation as well.
We're now accelerating the process of hybrids...
If we select the best traits of each parent plant, the end result is a better offspring.

Love you'r dog bro,...just messing with you.

Kinna like This fellow does!
I ordered last year and got roughly 500 seeds (for $10 donation).

I wish that was my dog. He’s probably worth close to a $1,000,000. Pups like the one he is carrying can easily bring $50k.
Now back to the lights. I look at many pics of bud growing and ask myself, “why my bud not look like that.?” Simply put.... it’s not growing in the sun DA! I do recall having bud like that when I grew using a hps. That was before the mars 5watts came out. I invested in a 700 and 1200 model. My bud got worse. I got the occasional that looks ok. But 1 out of 5 isn’t worth it. Thank god for @BigSm0 . My bud didn’t change. I still got my usual crappy bud, but now I’m getting 2 beauties and 3 “wtf”! I left Gh alone and switch to megacrop. Now My usual 40g turned into 70g. I’m thinking I hit the jackpot. “Hey, what gives?” I see people pulling 70g - 150g all day long. I’m talking each plant. Out of 5 they started at 40g , 68g, 96g, up to 152g. Then I noticed a pattern. The ones that finished quicker has less on it. They were small. So I associated the smallness to lesser yields like everyone else. But each time I did this , it was always the same pattern. It didn’t matter the strains, the nutrients, or the lights. Same thing.... and what not, I was doing the same thing each grow. I started to invest more thinking that would solve my issues. It didn’t. I purchased the most expensive lights, the best soil, the nicest grow container, even buy the biggest strains, and all of this, still could not make up for the fact that “I’m a crappy grower” . My finished product always told me one thing, “ I grow like crap”. The question that I asked my self is , why am I still getting crappy bud when I’m doing what everyone else is doing?. So you know what I’m getting at right. I stopped following the masses, and started to pay attention to the guys that got those big yields. My shit didn’t get any better, but I did get more of it. I’m getting 5-6 + zips a plant and now I really feel like I’m a “Grower”. I’m passing out airy, nitro toxic, unflushed bud and getting offended when the hood call my shit home grown. New question, why my shit looks like that. The first thought was the easy way out. I must need some of that crap everyone else is using. I go buy every bottle that someone said will grow good weed and make it prettier. Not one made much of a difference. They actually seem to make things worse. I say to myself, Something has to change. Now I wAtching @Dabber show his stuff, @Mizzo81 is doing well. And many others. Each gave me a different answer. And neither answer seem to fix my problem. Damn I have problems... being a troubleshooter by nature, I know when there is a problem, you fix it. But first you have to know what the “problem” is to fix it. I went one by one problem, by problem trying to fix what I thought I had going wrong. More lights,”cobs” jacks nutrients, rain science grow bags (a must have). Hell I even jumped on the greengene’s/ jacks 321 ban wagon. Hell I even got me some Gravitron, which I never used. I tried it on one that I left a few buds on just to see what it do.. please don’t put that on your plants. Let’s try the kelp... we all know what too much k does, so that’s a no no as well. Jacks 321 got me across the finish line, but it still wasn’t much of an improvement. Then it came to me. Growers didn’t have all of this stuff back then so it’s truely not necessary. Plus it causes more problems than it fixed. But I new greengene was on to something. My bud may not have looked like his, but I’m getting there. Frustation was really setting in and I’m about to call it quits. My wife tell me to hit this... I refuse. It’s not Christmas/ thanksgiving, or my birthday. I tell her what the hell.. give it here. I had an instant revelation. If you don’t believe anything else when it comes to cannabis you better believe this. You cannot grow bud, if you don’t smoke bud. I just can’t be done. The cannabis plant moves so subtly, and speaks so softly, the only way that you can communicate with it is to get on its levels. I had to learn to speak cannabis. The only way to do that is to be high. Become one with your plants and they will begin to talk to you. It’s up to you if you listen. Now I remember how many times my plants told me something and I simply ignored them. I had the mentality of “ why would I listen to a dumb plant, when greengene and many others are all over the internet showing me how it’s done. This is the biggest mistake that a grower can make. Always listen to your ladies, they know best. Do what they want , when they want it. They know what they like, and how they like it. Growing Cannabis isnt for stubborn or lazy people. You have to have a lot of patience. If you are in a hurry all the time, you may as well buy your weed, Cause your grows will not be worth a flip. “Learn, Learn, learn. Learn all you can about cannabis, not just what you read on these forums. FYI, humans learn from experience. So get as much experience as you can. The most you can learn from copying someone else is what not to do. By now you should already know every thing not to do. So why are you still doing that??? Cause you are either being stubborn or lazy or both. And that’s breaking the rules of cannabis and your grow is already fuxked before you get started. Now if you didn’t finish reading this post , you broke 2 rules. That’s patience and learning. Here is something for me taking up so much of your time. Look st plants grown outside in the sun and compare them to your indoor plants. There will be a huge difference in structure. Telling you why would be too easy and you will learn nothing. Now compare the outdoor plants to ones grown under cobs or hps These plants will be very similar in structure. Proving hps and cobs both have what it takes to produce nature quality bud. It’s proven that Cobs just do it more efficiently. Just like bigsm0 say they do. No disrespect @Dabber , but there is more to it than watts / sqft. Those are auto cob siting over your lady’s and they are working like a mofo. If that was all it takes everyone would have great bud. ☯️ Is your next clue. Nature is a complete balance. Your ladies will tell you if they are balanced or not. It will show in your grow. Pics are for reference. The last pic is mine to show similarity. All this thinking got me ready to smoke. Might I suggest smoking one with your girl. She just might tell you something special in return ✌ ☮️

 I'm to stoned to make any sense out of it :LOLStoned:

I think there is a lot of truth to what you're saying Blu.
And I'm sure many of us feel the same way (myself included).

There is a lot of money to be made in selling us all kinds of shit we don't need or don't want.
The arguement to this is, the folks growing in enviro eco bio soils do not adhere to the marketing hype.
Look at their grows, pretty decent in most cases huh?

Every hobby has its minimalist crowd.
People who practice amature radio (morris code), use what they refer to as flea power.
Its basicaly using the moon as a mirror to bounce a radio wave from, to hit the other side of earth!!
And this is done with a transmitter running off of a watch battery.
(get the point?)

Some fly planes with lawn mower engines..
And the list goes on and on.

I'd like to know what the cannabis crowd do?
And I'm not talking about bonzai cannabis.
I mean growing in a solo cup with only a 2 liter bottle of water...thats all.

I've also found that sticking to one strain in one medium with the same nutes lets you learn and adapt.
My first grows were hemp seeds sold by the pound for feed!!!..just to learn.
Then regulars outside, and now autos in a tent.

If you grow for the hobby, lower your expectations and your skills will flourish with time and without disappointment.
If you're growing for cost or volume. The investment of tools to grow vs output isn't worth it.

Follow your own advice which is actually very good!
Spark one up from a previous grow, and talk to your girls.

Cheers,

I am running 36 sq ft and 1560 watts at the wall which works out to 43.3 watts per sq. ft.
My lights produce 110ppf per light and i have 24 of them in a 4x8 frame or 2640 total
My first harvest was 1 Boss Hogg Auto that yielded 2.32lbs dry then chopped 6 Island Punch Autos a week later and ended up with 2.61 lbs dry off them so 4.93 pounds works out to 62.11 grams per sqft or 1.43 grams per watt. Really was a surprise as this was my first ever grow. Now that i have something to smoke maybe my numbers will go up. Maybe even grow me a 3lb auto.
