Indoor Watering in a 5 gallon bucket?

so Id say there is about 4 gallons of soil. my question is I watered 2 gallons last night when the pot was super light, I got run off etc but today top layer of soil down to three inches is dry? Is it possible she's drank it up. Temps are about 79-84 degrees. How much water does a 32 " plant at 40 days old need scared of overwatering and getting gnats

my main concern is under watering to the point of false defecensies
