I'm not sure where to post this so I figured this would be as good of a place as any. For those that don't know, Virginia just legalized recreational cannabis a couple months ago. Like any state there are a bunch of stipulations but one of the allowances is sharing weed. Here are all the details of the laws but for this thread, this is the most important part:

"On July 1, 2021, “adult sharing,” or transferring one ounce or less of marijuana between persons who are 21 years or older without remuneration, became legal."

Since we're all growers, is there a good way to create a network for people to share herb? This might be a good app but since I don't have the time or the skills to create an app, if you do it and get rich I just would like credit and a lot of free, high quality weed.

Not here read the TOS Agreement:

I think the intent was mainly "what's the best way to meet people for adult sharing" and not necessarily "can we use AFN to meet people."

Per the AFN ToS, AFN is not a social networking site:
Permitted and Prohibited Uses

You may use this website for the sole purpose of sharing and exchanging ideas with other Users.

Perhaps the best way to find like-minded people right now is local facebook groups. Google Play looks to have apps that may be cannabis-oriented social-networking type apps, but I haven't checked them out and don't know how popular they are. I don't think there's anything specifically geared towards adult sharing. Theoretically, you could do an app / website that's no more involved than craigslist (although a search of craigslist for "cannabis" returns no results, so it is probably against their ToS).

There's probably two main challenges for an app like that:
  1. Personal safety, security, identity protection, and scams typical for any online matchmaking and IRL meet-up. Think craigslist horror stories but on steroids (or bath salts).
  2. Implementing it in a way that's truly "share only / no strings attached." The full text of the law (here) bans any exchange that involves a reciprocal transaction of any kind. So, technically, a "will share some of mine if you share some of yours" meet-up is prohibited. In real life, that would be difficult to enforce. But, in app/software space, it would be easy to argue that the app is violating those terms if they allow one user to offer anything in trade as a condition of meeting another user IRL (even if its just offering to do the truffle shuffle).
So, right now, I'd probably recommend joining or starting a local facebook group, and then reaching out to local businesses / venues to see if anyone is willing to host a "share-meet". Public use is still prohibited, but you may find some businesses that would be open to advertising and hosting a sharing event as part of their own marketing - microbreweries seem like great candidates. Maybe some of them would even be willing to make it a recurring event.

Correct. I wasn’t looking to use AFN as the sharing network. Just looking to share ideas about how it could be done. With that said, from the previous response it sounds like even having the conversation here isn’t within the TOS so I’ll respect that.

Thanks for the well thought out response though!

The difficulty will be in keeping it "clean" in open forum, you just know somebody will cross the line :nono:... I guess technically, this topic is OK to discuss in a general sense, but there's a lot of dubious grey area in it and so finding/defining the line will not be so easy I afraid,...
AFN has had a good long series of chats with a specialty lawyer on such subjects and many others, including even just seed swapping by members... Many red and yellow flags were raised, believe it!
It's a tangled complicated mess with this being an international forum, based in one country, owned by others in another, and the laws are all over the map literally and figuratively...
So, this is why AFN is taking an ass-covering conservative approach to such subjects, small blame right? The consequences of something going legal could be FUBAR, and we ain't risking it :redcard:.....

A nice idea, seems a great way to roll, and I wish it could work out. I've thought a similar thing myself, with all the surplus I have usually,... but there is a dark side I feel you have glossed over on a personal basis, website restriction/security aside...:smoker1:
The potential for abuse, including scammers, rippers, LEO, or worse, easily could set you up like a bowling pin,....think about it... WTH can you really tell about anybody from a damn website and some "friendly text"? Not all will be as they project on the screen here, or in private email, PM's, etc., no matter how "honorable" you may be... At some point personal specifics will need to be offered up, then meeting up, or mail swap (*shudder*), whatever...:eek1:
