[USA] Frost Bros Genetics (Q3 2022)

Theres literally thousands of them just on the surface of the soil and rim of the pot. Its pretty bad.
I'd use Nematodes, and Diatomaceous Earth to get rid of them if it were me. If that didn't work(but I'm sure it would) , then I'd use General Hydroponics Exile as a last resort.

I am ordering nematodes before i plant anything else in there. I have little experience with bugs, I just felt more comfortable getting rid of the infested pots. Theyre gone already. I doubt this will be my last bug issue, i just need to be better prepared.

Orders those Nematodes and a bag of Diatomaceous Earth. Thanks for the info.

@2budz you did the right thing, it’s what a farmer would do. Ruthless culling! Was that 5 pots? Plus some other little plant you had chilling right? :pass: :condom:
it has to be said, those plants were healthy last we saw. Did you see damage to the plants or just a bug perceived as root aphids?

It was 6. 5 skunks and a little Purple Kush. I may have panicked a little, overreacted. But, being my first infestation and not having stuff on hand to deal was a beginner mistake that I won’t make again. I just didn’t want them in my tent/house any longer lol. I ordered 3 different products that should keep me ahead of most if not all soil dwellers, one that should help with all bugs. Crossing my fingers my cleanup went well and I did actually get them all. I tested a flying bug spray (wasp) on them and it killed them almost instantly. Obviously wouldn’t be able to use the plants after spraying them with that but I used it in the tent along with a bleach mix. Vacuumed the whole area really well. Cleaned everything. Whole plants went in trash bags with pots. I feel pretty good about it.
Here is a pic of the offender. Best I could get through a loupe.

Not even exaggerating, there were thousands of them. What I read about these root aphids is that they live in the soil and attach to roots. Once the root ball is infested and there is no room for more they’ll hang out on top of the soil or on the pot itself, which was what I was seeing. So I was only seeing a small number compared to what was actually there.

Here are the last shot of the plants. I suspect they had been in the soil from the start which would explain why they were all different sizes. They stunt the plants.

I really do think the organic food I was feeding may have contributed. The little PK had very few of them while the pots that had organics in them were visually much more infested. I think DTE will be for my outdoor use only. It does work well but I don’t want another issue like this. Hopefully adding nematodes from the start will help also. Crazy thing is those aphids are asexual so it only takes one.

Funny enough it is organic amended soil:shrug: I have seen some people don’t mix peat and coco when making their own soil and I’ve only used Coast of Maine Stonington blend which is a mix of peat and coco? Also only use RO or rainwater
Unless it's being over watered. That happe s to me to the plants in the back of my tents when I get lazy and don't check the weight of the pots before I water.

So. Many. BUGS. It’s giving me serious anxiety. They’re really concentrated in the pots I’ve put DTE in so I don’t think I’ll be using that inside anymore lol. I ordered something from Amazon that should take care of them, fingers crossed, but that’s 2 days away. I just don’t want them getting into my other tent.

Funny thing is I seem to have the gnats in check this round so naturally a new bug had to creep in.
Are we 100% sure they are root aphids and not something that may be bennificial? That kind looks like a compost mite of some sort. If so they only eat dead organic material.

Mites have 8 legs. These only had 6. That was the first idea we had in chat was that they may be beneficial and not a pest. After quite a few people had eyes on them it was decided they were aphids. I trust the guys that gave me input.

Day 44
The leafs are looking better and the buds are stacking up nicely, i spread the branches out on the net a bit better and cut off some leafs, afterwards i noticed still no smell! crazy!! i think we have a strain for my outdoor garden!! as smell was my biggest concern.
