Did you store them a certain way? I did know you could keep them in the fridge for some time, but a year is very long indeed
They came in a plastic To Go container and inside a paper bucket. I just used the last bit on our tropical and worked a charm.

If you want to treat the soil organically I can recommend using nematodes. Specifically Steinernema carpocapsae or if you are in a colder region Steinernema feltiae. Both can be used to treat any insect pest which has a larvae stadium in or near the soil.
Thanks for the tip. But I find them easy to get rid of in my climate using rice hulls. The larvae this time surprised me because I didn't expect too many of them, though I had been storing the soil outside in the weather. (I should have known better.) But I'll keep steinernema in mind if I encounter other kinds of larvae.

One week from germination (roughly) and these young seedlings are all surviving and doing well.

Tent fan turns on at 80°F now (up from 76). I'm trying to get a good balance between humidity and heat with the equipment I have. It's currently running 44% humidity.

I spent 3 days out of town and left them in a cloning box to keep them from drying out. Fungus gnats came out , but they're not flying yet so I've been killing them when I see them. They shouldn't be able to get back in after breeding if the rice hulls are deep enough.

They're robust seedlings and I was happy to see them in good shape when I got back.

Three weeks from seed. A few days ago I started reducing daylight length starting at 14 hours. I'm down to day length of 12.5 and will go down to 12/12 tomorrow. I'm doing this because I currently only have one tent and have two clones that need to be flipped. So my yield might not be huge, because this is sort of a 12/12 from seed grow. However, having 3 plants (depending on how many males) should still ensure a decent yield.

I expect to see sex in three weeks but don't know because I've never grown 12/12 from seed before. I'm hoping it takes longer because I'd like to get these seedlings bigger before they flip. I'll keep you posted.

Sex
Nearing the end of week 5 - already on flip schedule because I only have one tent. They're small due to the 2 gallon pots and early 12/12 light schedule but I'm confident they're going to pick up enough size in stretch to give me at least an ounce per plant - we'll see.

One male has shown sex as of today. (Far left - 4WS #3.) So I'm sure the other two are females.

I'll post again when the ladies show sex. I haven't killed the male yet, though I'll have to do something soon because I have flowering plants in the same tent.
