Anyone here use urine for a fertilizer? I have been reading about it and it's interesting. It comes out of us approx 12 1 2. Typical dilution is approx 50:1 from what I have been reading. When I lived in SD the local bar had a outside puss plant. A group of sunflowers that grew as tall as the building every year. All the regulars passed on it whenever we went outside for a cigarette. I think I'm gonna collect some. It's free and organic... why not. What's everyone's thoughts on it?

Make sure that you dilute it. And keep in mind that you are only for the most part adding a bit of nitrogen. You still need to figure out how to balance that with other nutes.

IMHO, you might be a bit better off going with a balanced nute mix like the most recent version of single part Megacrop, but that is just me.

Urine should be aged for regular use - a year or more. If used fresh regularly the odor can become quite strong and offensive. For organic growers it can be a good source of balanced nutrients as a stop gap measure while waiting on the post for your regular nutrients. I would only consider my own urine because many medications pass out of the body in urine, antibiotics and hormones. I am taking none of those and of course would not use it if I were.

PS I have a many year supply of Mega Crop 2 part and I have no plan or need to use my pee

Im on my first grow so im absorbing information as quickly as i can. I really desire to grow all organic. Ive just started learing about korean natural farming. Lots of good stuff. Its amazing how much we have pushed nature out of growing to get more when if we just learned to work nature better we can have the same results. My family and i have a dream to be as off grid as we can and learning organic farming practices on a closet and basement scale it will be soo much easier for us later. My wife looked at me crooked when i told her i was gonna start saving some pee lol.

How do i age it? Just leave it sealed in a container? Ive read o2 breaks down the N into ammonia if left out. Which is why its ok to go on the compost pile as well correct? Ive seen about mixing ash as well to boost it to approx 10 4 8. If i do that and dilute it say 50:1 or even 100:1 is it ok to use about once a week. Thanks for the help

Be careful there is a danger for pathogens and beware of your city ordenances concerning human waste. If you are serious about this you need to research a composting toilet. Urine goes one direction and solids another. The urine is aged in a closed container away from light for at least a year. The solid waste is aged in barrels for 1 year and then composted for another year.

There are many variations on this as some systems use the urine in the solid waste stream. They all take a couple of years before you have a usable product.

This is a valuable skill off-grid.

I will definitely look into that setup. In the meantime tho theres nothing wrong with using it fresh once in a while?

In an emergency I would use urine and I have recommended others to do so as well. I would not plan to use it myself. I consume my weed.

It is a lot easier, safer and less smelly to get your nitrogen from other sources.
