My seeds finally arrived..!

I had planned to start this next grow in August, but my seeds got sent on a world tour by Royal Mail, and I had to wait for over a month after the seeds got held hostage in the US before Attitude would send me new seeds..

Anyway, now they've arrived and and I have a Berry Ryder that broke soil today and a Blue Mystic soaking.

With my previous grows I've managed to stunt my plants severly, over watering and PH issues being the main culprits.... I'm trying a new soil mix this time around, which I have talked about in an earlier post https://www.autoflower.org/f44/soil-mix-waiting-new-plants-35451.html

I'm hoping that (finally) using lime in the soil mix and really trying not to over water will get me better results this time.

I'm growing in square 7 liter (1.8 gal) pots under a 250W dual spectrum CFL, with a 300W 2700K CFL on hand to add for the flowering stage.
I'll be using Biobizz Grow and Bloom. I also have the Topmax, but people tend to say it doesn't really do anything, so I don't know if I'll use it.

I'll come back with temperatures and humidity when I get the fan and humidifier going in a couple of days, but I know that my grow space tends to be a little on the warm and dry side, but still within acceptable limits. Nothing to do about it, unfortunately.

And here's a picture of the berry ryder on her birthday..!

Day 0
20141011_161626.jpg

She was soaked Oct. 8, planted Oct. 9 and broke soil today Oct. 11, so I will count this as day 0, as I always tend to get impatient and treat the girls like they're older.....

I hope the blue mystic will have cracked by tomorrow so I can come back with some baby pictures of her as well in a couple of days :)

Hi fluke

Good luck with your grow, good to hear you eventually go your beans.

Not sure what compost your using, most potting compost has 3-6 weeks worth of fertilizer in the mix, be careful not to over feed.

Check the compost bag it may give you a PH for the compost, which will give you an idea if you need to add amendments.

Like you mentioned letting the mix dry out before feeding again in beneficial, letting the ph range a little and allowing oxygen to the roots.

I like the Biobizz range, I have always used Topmax so can't say what the difference is not using it. I do however prefer the Fish mix to bio grow and use bio heaven too.

In the past I have used Biobizz Allmix & Light mix both are great but I personally prefered the Light mix, it gives you more control over you feeding regime.

If your compost doesn't have any perlite in it adding some will give an airier mix, which is good for your roots, it does mean you will water a little more often but you get a good root system. I add 25% perlites to 75% compost.

like the Birthday pic, look forward to lots more pics.

peace brother

Thanks, arty zan :)

The ph of the soil I'm using now is 6.3, so should be good. The other soils I've used have been around there as well, but after a few weeks it always drops to the point of lockout, that's why I'm trying with lime this time. I'll also be trying to curb my tendency to over water, since I suspect that is the reason for the ph drop.

With this mix I actually have about 50% perlite and another perlite-like substance (hard to describe, local scandinavian stuff), so I'm curious to see how this works out, since I've also had trouble with compacted soil, even though I have been using what I thought was genereous amounts of perlite the other times too.

Fingers crossed... :)

Berry Ryder is fabulous smoke dude. Good luck with the grow.

When I got home from work this morning the Blue Mystic had cracked, so I got her planted right away. I'm hoping to see her out of the ground on Tuesday morning..

I also saw that I had placed the Berry Ryder a bit too close to the light, drying out her cotyledons a bit around the edges. That's the trouble with working 12 hours shifts during the infant stage..!

(sorry about the crappy picture, my phone didn't want to cooperate)

Now I've set up the fan and humidifier, and with the door to the grow space closed (my cat loves eating seedlings) it keeps a temperature of about 31 deg. C (87.8 F) and about 45% rh. I can adjust the humidifier and will probably be tinkering with that over the next few days to find a good setting..

Today I found a few tiny black flies in my grow space, which I was kind of expecting... I grew some tomato and pepper plants on my balcony this summer, and put them inside on overcast days, and the little critters came in with them in the soil...

I put those plants outside again a few weeks ago and I thought I had gotten rid of the little flies before starting these seeds, but no such luck.

I do have a secret weapon though, and that is a type of non clumping cat litter made from clay with a high content of diatomaceous earth. The BR hasn't gained much height yet, but I managed to put on a thin top layer of the sand/clay over the soil.

I'm expecting the Blue Mystic to show herself by tomorrow morning or so. She's still under plastic wrap, so I hope the little flies haven't set up shop there yet. She will also be getting the DE clay as soon as there's room under her.

Temperatures are still in the 31-32 C range, and humidity is about 50-55 %

Aaaand here she is, Blue Mystic, just as predicted...

And this is the one who likes to eat seedlings......
20141014_044706.jpg

He even plucked my Bubbleicious right out of her pot this summer, when she was only two days old, but I managed to stick her back in, and she actually grew to a mature plant with a little top nug the size of my thumb, heheh... Smoked her just this evening actually...

Get him his own little pot of a nice green thin bladed grass.
He will nibble on that rather than your tender seedlings.
If your in the states, Petco or Petsmart will have them or look it up on amazon.

I have some catnip seeds lying around actually, tried to grow some out this summer, but the rather microscopic seedlings died on me out in the sun on my balcony...

I have room to grow some of that alongside this though, but I'm not so sure I'd want anything near my "good" plants that will actually attract him, heheh...

Knowing him he'd probably sniff the catnip, pull up my other seedlings just for fun, then go back to the catnip... He's kind of an asshole like that... ;-P

The Berry Ryder appears to have stopped growing altogether. The Blue Mystic at day 1 already seems bigger than the 4 days old BR.

Too bad i didn't see that I had put her too close to the light on day 0 before I came home from work 12 hours later...

I'm unsure whether to just wait a little longer and see what she does, or start another bean. I watered the pots completely before planting, and the pots are naturally still heavy as hell, but I'm considering maybe trying to give her a fresh drink.
But that is also the kind of thinking that has led me to over watering in the past..... Hmmmmm..

Anyway, here they are today
