Truu's electrical help thread.

Howdy folks.

This thread will be dedicated to any of your electrical needs. Whether it be a question about your growing setup, or if you just need help around the house. I have many years of electrical experience in residential, commercial, and industrial fields.

Just ask your question as detailed as possible, throw in some pics if needed. The more info I can get, the better I can understand what you need. It is also a good idea to let me know if you are from over seas, for I am not lol.

Hey tru, thanx for the help before. I have another ? for you. If I wanted to change this series to a combo, could I like so?...and still have 12v to all 4?

Hey Truu, I've been trying to hook up an inline exhaust fan, but the thing is drawing way harder than I need it too. So I'd like to put a potentiometer in but rather than really fuck with the fan itself I wanted to put a dimmer switch in the way of the power. I really just was trying to see what the wiring would look like. I already tried one rig with a standard wall socket in one box and a switch with a sliding dimmer and a 3 prong plug I canniblalized. I first read a couple schematics and I thought I got it but to no avail. Either the fan would just power on when I plugged it in to the socket or it wouldn't run at all. I never got the potentiometer to function. Any help is appreciated.

Hey quix sorry man I didn't notice your last post. I'm gonna have to draw you a diagram, that should clear it up for you.

Krum I'll draw you a diagram as well.

I like pictures. Also, I did find a 12v power converter it puts out 5.8 amps will that cook the fans?

Hey quix it should be ok. I think the 5.8 is the amount of allowable amps the transformer should have.

Sorry about not having the drawings ready guys. We just closed on our house and will be moving this weekend. I'm going to sketch them up today.

No worries bro. When I didn't here back from you I went on a mission. I bought a power supply with adjustable voltage so it worked out. It says its 1 amp. My fans work on .38 amps. If I wanted to hook up all four fans is that too much for the power supply? CONGRATULATIONS on the closing good luck with the new place.

Alright krum here is your diagram. All you have to do is cut your power cord in half and make up the 2 blacks (the black cut in half) and make them up to both screws 1 on each screw. Your white (neutral) will bypass the switch. And your ground will tie to the ground on the switch. If you wanted to use the receptacle to just plug in and use the dimmer to control the receptacle, let me know and I'll draw you a diagram for that.

Quix here is yours. I have your fans in parallel. All the same wires of each fan are made together. Let me know if you need better clarification.

Thanks tru, i got parallel and series what I was after was to know if/how I could carry that 12v volts to 2 more fans by changing the series to a combination circuit. Both series and parallel. Just for future reference, could I have? Either way, I got it straightened out I think. Thanks again. Mucho appriciato amigo.

Truu, you're the man. +rep for ya! I'm going to crank this out on sunday. Thanks Brotha!

Alright krum here is the drawing you asked for. Sorry It took so long man, hopefully I wasnt killing your plants!
