Truu's electrical help thread.

Howdy folks.

This thread will be dedicated to any of your electrical needs. Whether it be a question about your growing setup, or if you just need help around the house. I have many years of electrical experience in residential, commercial, and industrial fields.

Just ask your question as detailed as possible, throw in some pics if needed. The more info I can get, the better I can understand what you need. It is also a good idea to let me know if you are from over seas, for I am not lol.

Am I right in thinking I can run 2 of these fans from this 12v adaptor because the fans are 0.90A (900mA) and the plug is 2250mA (2.25A)?

I have a question i remember a old friend of mine was growing hps unsure of wattage here come the question one day after showing me his grow while the light was on maybe 15mins later a cable man or the light company was outside disconnecting our service because there was a intense reading at our house that was causing a shortage 2 the other customers in the area .Pause That Thought this is why i dont remeber if it was a cable man or the light company because i remember the man saying somthing like maybe there is a cable box or wifi router half way pluged in now that i think about it it was the cable man because he disconnected our internet as we was playing the game and as soon has he turned the light off the reading was ok but how can a light in a basement interfere. With cable and or internet? In the upper levels of a house

Does you cable use coax, that should have no problem shielding any emf. If it comes in on old paired cable it could be a problem. The way to tell is if the cable has a red green black and yellow wire it should be replaced if your wire has tracer colors its twisted pair and should be able to shield itself. If it is twisted pair and you're still having problems you can buy shieded twisted pair. There is more you can do but if that doesn't take care of the problem I would rebuid or replace the ballast rather than setting up traps and transformers.

Sorry got a noob question. I've got two HLG QB132 36v set up in a frame each one powered by Meanwell LPF 60-36 power supply.IMG_0178.JPGIMG_0179.JPGIMG_0182.JPG

I've hooked up the boards from the power supply to the wall with 16-2 gauge extension cord cut off but leaving the wall plug.

Can I safely join each of the positive and negative near the wall to make just one plug or do I need to have a separate power cord coming from each power supply to the wall?
Sorry about the sideways pics not sure why it's doing that..

This is a old thread but thought I'd answer. Your idea would work but is a bit on the sketchy side. Unless you had an approved splicing connector I would go with one cord per driver in the set up you described. You'd be dealing with a line voltage splice, so safety is most important. Also sounds like a huge code violation. With any 120v splice in a grow setup, I would go with an IP67 rated 120v cable connector/junction box. Good luck and I hope your grow worked out.

^^Thanks for the reply. Can you post a pic of the ip67 120v cable connector/junction box you are recommending?

I found a how to for diy LED lights by growmau and he recommended the Wago style connectors... I used those and haven't found any unusual heating in the wiring but am open to re-visiting.

@ReNN042 I might have a few questions — could you hook me up to the new thread?

Wagos would be ok/safe for the load side of driver (Driver to led chip) for a free air splice. You can use them for 120v splices and shouldn't cause any abnormal heating, but at that point any splice would need to technically be in an UL rated electrical enclosure.

As an electrician, this is what I'd use.
