Truu's electrical help thread.

Howdy folks.

This thread will be dedicated to any of your electrical needs. Whether it be a question about your growing setup, or if you just need help around the house. I have many years of electrical experience in residential, commercial, and industrial fields.

Just ask your question as detailed as possible, throw in some pics if needed. The more info I can get, the better I can understand what you need. It is also a good idea to let me know if you are from over seas, for I am not lol.

Thanks namvet 25 that probably is the easiest way instead of messing with the electrics of the house cheers for the help

this house I have was built in 1935. there has been some work to the electrical because I have mostly breakers except for 1 that's built into the wall as you head down the steps. there is 1 double breaker marked lights which does in fact control all the lights including all outside lights. its marks as 60 amps which confuses me. I cant believe that an electricion would over rate old wires and I do plan on removing a light in the room and installing an outlet for my 1000 HPS.. I have done the math using .5 amps from the old incandescent bulbs they would have used and the .15 amps cfl I use now and there is plenty of amps left over for me to do this but the issue about the double 60 amp light breakers concerns me. I don't want to burn my house up so what think I should do? I mean really 120 lights?

@micro - Whats up bud? You may need to go to a lower wattage bulb to keep from buring your plants :crying: . Give me a call I dont have your # anymore.

@hippy - What size wire Is going to the breaker (should be #6 to be legal). If not, put a 20amp breaker in its place. If it holds, you're safe. If it trips call an electrician.

Hi-

This is probably a dumb question, but.........

Just got a 400w HPS. Can the ballast/light be plugged into a normal, everyday outlet?

Thanks in advance for any help!

you should be good buddy wouldnt worry about it

Im about to start a new project using a 4 light vanity with Y adapters to make it 8. Im not to electrical inclined so i will probably be coming to you for help. One question i have right off the bat is what should i use to connect the lights so that they can be plugged in. Should i use an old computer power cord and strip the male end? or should i use a store bought extension cord and if so what gauge?

thankss!

I think you could just use an old extension chord and be fine. Make sure you keep your joints protected. #12 wire should be sufficient for your lights.

hey is it easy to add a plug outlet and add a circuit to room my grow is in same room as circuit breaker.. i wanna add another plug with dedicated 20 amp circuit.. i think room has three seperate circuit already. one for boiler, one for washer and one for general basement all are fifteen amps. wood this be easy to do.. have NO IDEA about electricity. what will i need to do this?? thanks
