Transdermal Magnesium Guinea-pig thread.

Is there any reason you are using the Epsoms in the bath rather than the mag chloride..?

I guess you're replying to me? Well, mostly because I take many forms of magnesium and because I was having a good experience with epsom before I tried magnesium oil (the liquid chloride). I'm not really trying to supplement mg solely transdermally, I just do the epsom to kind of "direct feed" my skin and muscles, etc., particularly after exercise or when I need to chill out fast before bedtime. I'll also spray the mag oil onto the old injury sites before bed for extra pain relief, and I take the mag chloride tablets every night as well. But epsom is cheap and effective in the tub even if it's not as ideal as mag chloride flakes.

I take different forms for different purposes and because supplementing solely with mag chloride would not be cost-efficient for me over the long term. The mag citrate tablets keep my digestion straight, when I'm out I have to take a lot more mag chloride to get the same effect. I mentioned the magnesium l-threonate which is magnesium bonded to l-threonic acid, enabling it to cross the blood-brain barrier more easily than other forms. It seems to have a strong beneficial action specifically on the hippocampus which appeals to me because I have PTSD, and the hippocampus is typically beaten up in people with anxiety disorders like PTSD. (weed helps that too!) My husband and I both have noticed cognitive improvement since taking it and my memory has certainly improved.

Anyway, I'm getting a LOT of magnesium from different food and supplement sources, including the mag chloride, and I'm pretty happy with it all so far.

Have you Read the Magnesium and calcification Link...?..I'm going to explain it out shortly..But..if you are Magnesium deficient your blood cells can be full of calcium..so if you work out or work hard..it will bring extra blood to the Working areas..if that extra blood is full of calcium rather than oxygen..it is going to start calcifying the heavy working areas.

Magnesium in large enough doses dissolves the calcium build-up.

The reason I finally discovered magnesium supplementation is that about a year ago I had been losing weight and exercising more, which I realized was creating new demands on my body, and decided that it was time to "get serious" about calcium like good girls are supposed to do. I added a moderate, food-based Ca supp to my regimen. Within about ten days I was set back years--couldn't sleep, couldn't poop, felt miserable all over, even started feeling depressed. I started searching around to see if adding the calcium could cause this (it was the only change I'd made at that time) and learned about the connection between calcium, mangesium, and all the things you already know about all this :) As I say, it turned out I eat plenty of calcium normally and never needed a supplement. In fact I take a little extra mag if I know I've had a high calcium day, and in the very beginning I deliberately reduced my calcium intake so the mag could help get rid of the excess.

I've always had 'gritty' joints and arthritis, which runs early in my family on both sides, so the idea of decalcifying myself like a coffeemaker was very appealing!

A9ymous...this is what I was Wondering about....we are only using the transdermal mag chloride ATM..

The PTSD info is great too..:tiphat:..one of the Problems that seems to have few Working med regimes...

That's it..

I have just got there..although we eat very little Dairy..if I do indulge..I'm balancing out with higher mag dose.

I've got arthritis real Bad on one side of the family history and have always been told it was associated with a Cal deficiency..But..supplementing it could have been making the problem worse..:stoneslap:

And..yup..the coffeemaker theory is where I'm at now.....

Dr. Dean makes this clear when she says in her book The Magnesium Miracle, “To understand how you can create a calcium/magnesium imbalance in your own body, try this experiment in your kitchen. Crush a calcium pill and see how much dissolves in 1 oz of water. Then crush a magnesium pill and slowly stir it into the calcium water. When you introduce the magnesium, the remaining calcium dissolves; it becomes more water-soluble. The same thing happens in your bloodstream, heart, brain, kidneys, and all the tissues in your body. If you don’t have enough magnesium to help keep calcium dissolved, you may end up with calcium-excess muscle spasms, fibromyalgia, hardening of the arteries, and even dental cavities.

have you Seen what Extra Cal does to the inside of your washing machine..?....

Cheers..I'm Pleased you Shared your homework..it lets the Testers know what they have to Look Forward to.

I'm not sure what that is, Aunty.

An Over dose of dairy products..butter..milk..cheese..hmmm..ice cream...:jaw:
I do still plan on reducing the mag in my baths, just because 2 or 3 cups seams to work for me as well as 6 or 7.

I'm a great believer in doing what your body Tells you...:coffee2:
I've been off tobacco for a couple of weeks, maybe that had something to do with it?

That makes your PH measures even Better..coz most people take a metabolic drop when they stop the cigarettes..:kusht:

Oh, I did eat a bowl of ice cream last night, first sugar fix in quite
some time. Maybe related?
Sounds like the Suspect..

So I ordered some Mag Chloride Flakes, as well as some good oral Mag yesterday directly from Swansons. I always get my order within 3 business days. So I will start testing on myself along with the missus by end of week.
I will keep you all updated. Very excited to start using, as I know we both are in need of much more Mag into our systems.

:yoinks: :yoinks: CHEESE!!! :yoinks: I'm a cheese junkie, Aunty. Three weeks ago I cold smoked almost 13 lbs. of cheddar, swiss asiago, gruyere, etc. It lasts us a long time, but after the first 2 week mellowing period we tend to go nuts. Maybe that's why my shoulders are so "crunchy" today.

Me too. I'm a bit wracked from work today, so I'll give 3 cups @ 45 minutes a whirl.

 Back on the smokes then! NOT!!! Just pH'ed @ about 7.2. I gotta get a digital.

[Same here, I eat greek yogurt for the protein, but cheese because I am a big old whore for it. /QUOTE]
LOL!!! I almost said I was a cheese whore, but opted for the "junkie" instead.

So, how are you guys testing your pH levels and what is the target number you're aiming for?

I'm still using test kit drops, but I'm planning to upgrade to a digital meter by next month. More money, but i believe a lot more accurate, you just have to keep them well maintained. I believe oral paper strips are also an option.
As to the target #, well, I'll leave that to the pros here. I was so low that my only focus was cracking 7.0, and I'll be uber happy to maintain in the 7-7.5 range consistently. "Check your PH"
