Too late to put in bigger container? (No, it was not)

Funnily enough i mentioned a guy on here the other day (he makes Black diamond LEDs in the states, sorry fella, can't remember your name!) He air prunes the tap root from the off, uses a 4 inch rock wool cube and air pruned in the cube before planting in final pots (followed by feeding just cube, not coco for first week, this creates a 4inch cube shaped straw for a primary root structure to suck up food.
Then he applies a top, veg and repeats tops and he is growing 4ft monsters by applying those techniques his original rock wool cube is full of both primary (and sooner than expected) secondary root.
I have a bunch of Creamatics so going to try a compare once my next lot of photos are done.

Worth a look

Sorry folks, a little off topic there.

Btw have thought about pot sharing and possible difference in feed levels, but wouldn't a weed membrane between plants solve that while 'largely' keeping roots apart in event of issues?

This made me think if there would be some substance where the roots could grow like on rock wool, but that could then be dissolved later. This way you could make a dense root ball and then spread it around to be more flat and once that would grow down, the roots could at least theoretically get real big, plus you could bury it as normal in soil without having to fear too much moisture uptake on the rock wool(or what ever you used).

Its funny you started talking about sharing root system, but having something to block it. This has been something i have experimented on a bit, but havent done any proper research on. However i have been thinking of the sort of system for a while where you would have a large and deep container, which would have proper super soil in it, worms living in etc, so that this part would largely be able to sustain itself with just occasional added food and something like sensizym to brake down the old and dead roots and turn them to food for microbes.

Then in that container you would have smaller pots inserted on top of it very densely, but with no bottom on them. So that the plants can grow inside that smaller pot at first and then start tpo spread out the roots in the large container. This would be for eliminating the competition for root space in early stages. Also you would change the soil inside the individual smaller pots every grow and keep it veg friendly, while the bottom part would be hotter soil more suitable for blooming. You could also add some extra nutes to single plants if just one has some deficiency, by giving it less of a stronger solution that wouldnt leak too much on the bottom part.

This sort of container for example sized 80 x 80 cm and 50cm high with 16 of smaller 20 x 20 cm square pots would be so awesome. Definitely will try it some day if ill have a chance.

I can say that the Airpot system is used in commercial tree planting, building the tree to establishment via successive up potting - once its matured enough the whole pot is wrapped cloth n stored in can be planted, before where the air pruned roots (in the SnM looking holes) gathered, once buried as is, the roots will begin to grow through the pot into wherever the tree is sunk complete with a sturdy and by design root system to minimize root resurfacing etc...
Genius, though by design for longterm development, however some principles can be utilized for mj.

Neil his name is from growpotcheaply he knows his stuff also his grow courses are great for people starting out

Thats the fella...! Thanks @St. Tom
This guy REALLY knows his onions...

It didnt seem to mind the transplanting at all. Only thing that seemed to bother it was not having enough light for like 24 hours xD It also grew bit over half an inch during the time with not enough light, so i guess there was no stunting at all. This made the new growth a bit pale, but have since came back(this pic was just after putting it back to tent yesterday).

Gave it some LST and sprayed with root plus and acti-vera after putting it back under light.

The fellow grew so vigorously and fast that i was able to top it to have 12 branches just before it started putting first preflowers, which is pretty awesome :)

Yea this sort of root pruning i did not test. But yea this seems like a good idea definitely worth trying out. Because it seems like at least some autoflowers dont mind at all being transplanted after first preflowers show. Maybe it would be a highly effective tactic to grow autoflowers in 4x4 cube with air pruning like this and then after it shows the first preflower, put it in large pot. Definitely gotta try that at some point :D

Thats what Neil does. Exactly, but in rockwool with plastic removed to air prune sides/ one that occurs secondary roots start up and he pots them, feeding only cube to push broots deep n wide. Like i said, waiting on my plant count going down before I try but am set to go. Lol

Yea, but he seems to have some sort of drip system and not regular soil. I dont think you can bury rockwool cube in normal soil without it molding and rotting the roots. Or can you? I was thinking of 3d-printing such cube with tons of holes for air pruning(if i cant find anything suitable i can modify) that i could fill with soil/coco mix and then just take it out of the cube and putting to soil(soil/coco mix).

I have a male low ryder #1 x matanuska tundra F3 that is just about to pop some pollen. I will make some seeds with this(which is this same low ryder x matanuska tundra F3 mixed with low ryder x northern lights F3), wedding cake auto and one complex mix from my own old stash. Then ill have more seeds to do some experimenting with :smoking: Also cant wait for barneys farm to release its auto gorilla zkittlez soon, which i will likely use in making next seeds from some of these upcoming mixes(and maybe some with this same pollen ill soon collect) to get some more of those modern(hopefully) higher THC/yield genes in the mix before trying to pheno hunt. Wedding cake matanuska gorilla ryder zkittles would sound pretty nice :D

I decided to give this a go :D Crafted an old smartpot to a smaller shape about that 4 inch in diameter and maybe 5 deep. Figured i could hang this in a pole in my tent, so it doesent even take any room on the floor
