Think this seedling has a chance?

I think she will be ok. Just don't kill her with kindness!

"Helmet Head" is caused primarily by 2 things: A hard seed casing, older or genetic some seeds need to be sanded or cracked before planting. The second and most common reason is the seed was not planted deep enough for the shell to be scraped off on the way out. Plant cannabis 1/2 inch deep.

:goodluck:

Update: She is pushing through like a champ…even grew a tiny bit of her tore cotyledon back!

Thanks so much everyone, for real, I probably would had yanked her.

I usually dig out a hole in my soil about the size of a small dixie cup and fill with seed starting mix.. I never plant directly into ocean forest or any heavy mix for that matter.. You can get away with it in happy frog because its made of a bit smaller particles, but yeah your mix is pretty chunky. There's a reason why seed starting mix is light and consists of fine particles and not tree bark and boulders.. I used to do the same thing and it definitely slowed down early stage root development..

yea, I meant to stagger the pot so the OF was on the bottom and the HF above but I definitely ended up just mixing it all into one mixture.

Shes looking pretty good!
A bit of advice though, layering isnt really a useful method in general and especially with ffof because ffof isnt anything like a supersoil and even layering supersoil which i used to do with photos, isnt a really great method. If you want to make growing easy on yourself, use straight ffof with maybe some quality light seed starting mix added to it to lighten it up at about 15% volume, (like roots micro greens for instance ) with a small pocket of seed starting mix like mentioned previously for the seed to start in, and top dress with a good compost like "buildaflower" from buildasoil.com and water with 1 tbsp per gallon of organic blackstrap molasses every other watering to start off.. You also want to use some sort of mulch to keep the top dress from drying out. Barley straw works well... That should get you some decent results... from there you can add things like bat guanos and aacts etc as you learn. Ive been using the same storage tote full of soil for going on three years now and my plants are very happy about it. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me.
