Hey AFN!
I am just finishing a Sour Stomper grow and the plan was to write a review when she's done.
But since my girl has taken a rather different path than what the Sour Stomper typically looks like, I've changed my mind to post it as a grow report.

So I started her in a 28L pot of living soil that had 2 previous runs on it and had to be filled up with fresh soil mix after a tomato plant grown as a companion had literally eaten up a good 7cm of it :D
I had a 4cm layer of quartz sand on there vs. fungus gnat propagation (which works perfectly as long as the sand's on btw, but seems the eggs remain viable and then hatch and survive again when the sand comes off).

On this run, I was also experimenting quite a bit with feedings, especially giving her fresh smoothies to boost whatever growth phase she was in. The theory backing this is the concept of there being a cycle of living matter going on, where the plant roots act a bit like our intestines in wrapping themselves around complex molecules, like hormones and enzymes, and applying those directly to their growth. So when a plant is vegging, I will mix young plant shoots, chock with growth hormones, and water those in. When she's flowering, I will mix up flowers, and when she's fattening up, fruit will be the amendment of choice. I also did a fresh SST amidst that, which follows the same principle.

Germinated with mycos in a paper towel and planted directly, choosing the best of two on day 8.

They were kind of slow to start, which may be user error, I have yet to get a feel for the right time to remove the humidity domes off the seedlings.

They got their first chlorophyll/protoplasma smoothie (tomato shoots blended in water) on day 8 too:

Had to open a trench in the sand to water it in:

This is the stronger one I grew out:

I so love how she kept her seed hull tucked under her "arm" for quite another while! :D

In the next days, as she began growing visibly, she got some more boosts.
An SST and an aloe drench on day 12, another leaf smoothie on day 18...
She was under a Cree 3590/3500°K at 50W at this point, but of course was also getting extra light from the 100W of the Pineapple Express that was finishing off next to her.

In this time, the way she was growing was simply amazing - it was like she was diving into the sky!
She would grow a new set of leaves tightly pressed together, like hands getting ready to dive, stretch those upwards whilst developing the next set of leaves in the protected space between them, and then open up wide, like after that gliding phase post dive, allowing the next tier to dive up in turn.

Ah so lovely!
And I couldn't help get the feeling that this energy, this joyous impetus, was intentional, that is, one of the traits she was bred for... and that I was witnessing the full expression of that trait there.
But, it gets even better! ;)

Secondary branch development.
To me, it's something typical of the Mephisto strains in general, that those side branches come up nicely next to the main cola.

But just how strong this trait is, was revealed to me by how it also transfered to the growth of tertiary branches.
And that happened because with all my girl's skydiving straight up she was blocking her own growth, like she was all tangled in herself.

So I LSTed her branches out a bit, next day:

everyone trying to get onto the same level haha

The growth spurt.
Anyone who has followed a Mephisto grow knows what I'm talking about.
I thought so too.
But ended up just standing there in wide-eyed amazement as my girl exploded in all directions LOL

It was getting very jungly and I found 50W not quite adequate. So I switched her over to the 100W side of the closet and started retraining her form from square to rectangular - yes, overshadowing the Pineapple Express, but that one was supposed to be finished days ago so I didn't mind her getting a bit of a "they're here" feeling haha

but she was hogging the space in a way that ridiculous

aaand she was going into flower

By the way, I was listening to this alot at the time, may have given her ideas ;)

And yet another beautifully harmonious trait expresses itself: branch stabilisation.
With the Pineapple Express finally harvested, the Sour Stomper became queen of the closet
2016-10-18_d35 (1).JPG
Just about now I was pleaing her to stop growing, as my vertical space does have its limits. And since she was holding the even canopy for much longer than I had seen in other grows, I thought that helping the main cola to clear apical dominance may slow her down. In addition to giving the tertiary branches that were vying for light some breathing space.

So I LSTed her again, but this time - note: just 5 days later (and no you're not getting pix of how mistreated she looked :p) - the branches were much stiffer than they looked, in transition to becoming strong and springy and perfectly able to holding trich-heavy colas. Perfectly synchronized with the development of flower.
Ah, amazing.

day 40
she got some more training - carefully!!!

And it was then that I realized that just standing around staring is not the right way to support a plant that grows 70cm in every direction in two weeks.
Her leaves started showing all sorts of complaints.
After some pondering I just up-potted her to 40L (yeah she was going rootbound), using the living soil from my other pot, and giving her two waterings with kelp juice in the course of the next few waterings.

By this time, her form had stabilized, to a main center amidst a sea of green :D
Main cola + 12 secondary branches.

She stayed focussed on her flowers and bounced back :)
I had been holding back on adding my 4th COB to the closet while she was ailing, but seeing her freshly invogorated one morning I added that in to make a total of 200W running 18/6

Ah the flower stage bores me to tears lol
(also, it's so hard to take pix that do those buds justice!)
But the Sour Stomper has sweetened up this time by greeting me with a symphony of varying aromas every time I open the closet door :)

day 62
2016-11-11_d62pm (1a).JPG
Note the big fan leaf down front, I've left it on as an "indicator leaf" whilst removing lots of the other damaged ones, also to allow for light and good air flow.
I'm actually waiting for that leaf to finish getting sucked out to chop her :D

First look at trichs on day 64 - never seen that before, those smaller red ones? Fried by light? Or a delight of its own?
Either way, pretty! But not ready.

Beautiful and trich-laden from top to toe!

Oh! before I forget - check out these trichs:

Those pink-colored hypodermal cells in the stem!
Apparently there are folks trying to get this to express in their strains (very erudite stuff I have no idea of haha) - well, the sour stomper does it on her own, not all over the place, but I've come across a few spots so it's not just a solo quirk :D
