Lighting The Horror's Think Different LED DWC Grow Journal

are you sure that light bleaching is what's making them go white from the inside? I'm having that issue, too, with some of my plants... bleach white from the stem out to the tips of the leaves, I'm under 1000w in a 4x4 space. Not happening to all my plants, just some. I figured it was a nutrient problem.

I figured it was a nutrient problem.

The reason I put "bleached" in quotations is that I've read some data which suggests that rapid growth can manifest an nutrient deficiency which leads to a "bleaching" effect, especially under the effect of a flowering LED. Its possible that's what happened. The only other time I've seen this "bleaching" was under an LED but I assume your 1000w is HID.

I've got them on a fairly standard starting blend of rhizatonic at full strength, cal/mag at full strength, and FFBB under 1/4 strength for an EC of 1.2 at 5.8 ph. No signs of nute burn on the tips.

To answer your question I can't be 100% sure since I've had too many variables in this grow to be able to single out any one factor at this point. Never grown an AF... never used that strong of an LED. If the next leaf set is "bleached" then I have to consider a deficiency.

Day 16. Most likely a deficiency.

They were looking bad yesterday morning. I decided to gamble and top feed one of them a dose of rhiz/GB. Looked a little better last night so I super dosed all 3 with a rhiz/GB mix, top fed, and this morning they look like new plants.

Diagnosis: the 600w LED did hurt them but the ongoing issue was lack of rooting due to transplant damage, leading to a nutrient deficiency. Lesson: do not transplant.

I'm going to continue the top feeding as needed and see if I can't still squeeze something out of this grow. Unfortunately my next grow has to be put on hold :cuss: so these ladies will have plenty of attention. :D

Hey horror!!

Nice setup mate

I'm also only doing my first journal on AFN.. I'm growin TD in a 4x4 scrog under 1200w hps..

As you can probably tell by Seymour's TD grow and the other TD journals, this strain can be temperamental if everything isn't perfect. I had a few issues to begin with while getting them from seedlings to veg. Some slight discolouration which could've been caused by my lack of experience with hydro, but all in all I'd say TD is a resilient enough strain. I would strongly recommend a scrog for this strain as it has worked very well with my plants and also with other scrogs (Billy Wu/Hazy ect)

Speaking from experience I'd say that if you can weather the storm at the beginning and get these girls into veg, then you will be rewarded graciously :)

If I could turn bk time and change one thing in my grow, I would def buy a unis co2 controller kit (ebay-£165) and get my grow room CO2 level up to 1500ppm.. The science is sound and it adds between 15-35% extra onto your yield... It's a a great investment and ill be using it in my next grow for sure

:peace: out mate and remember to persevere in all your endeavours

Thanks jAKe47!

Update day 20. In soil now.

I decided to free up some room and move a few things around so the girls are all now in soil lol. Oh man... if they live after all of this stress it will be a miracle. If they produce buds it will be a game-changing ELE. :yaboo:

So, for journal purposes, I transplanted all three into SOIL and will now be feeding as needed and more or less letting nature take its course (with a little help). They will be getting A LOT better light soon but that will be the only major change. They are on FF 3-part from now on out. Might throw some Candy or similar in later.

One of them actually looks pretty good. Here's a pic of her:

I can't speak to how temperamental TD is because these poor girls have been beat up pretty bad. The fact that one still looks this good, although small for her age, speaks to DPs great products IMO.

My next AF grow will have to wait until after the holidays but at that time I will run a solid grow and not just provide examples of what NOT to do. :drooling:

Day 22. Back under LED.

Still in soil in a cheesy flower container thingy (my apologies to DP) but actually they are recovering nicely and moving on. Cooler temps and more FSF watts on them are doing them good. Nice canna scent coming from the tent.

*added*

For journaling purposes they are in Miracle Grow potting soil. I put a layer of sunleaves stones on the bottom of the flower pot (which had holes in it) to allow for better drainage and more oxygen to the roots. I'm using a ph balanced formula of rhiz, cal/mag, and FFBB. They are under 270w of Full Spectrum Flowering LED.
