Indoor The Convoy: Short Stuff Boutique Test Grow Rd. 3 +1 - Tha Shiznit/Purple Amnesia/ ASD

Maybe I missed it, but is the in line fan in your tent, or outside of it? I see the filter, but not the fan...

Fan is outside pulling the air through the filter.

Yup, the exhaust fan is hard mounted (w/ bracket and bolts) to the underside of the 3/4"
plywood shelf that comprises the roof of the cabinet...hanging above the tent. It should
be visible in one of the pics in here....

Today I assembled my CO2 rig for this grow.

Objectives:

Biomass-based CO2 source instead of tank fed (cost)
Remote Reservoir (Outside of the tent)
Pump and digital timer delivery system

This system's layout was suggested by my grow store guy...

1 standard, 8-program digital timer...

One standard cheapo styrofoam cooler...

A MyCO2 Bloom Box, 1 standard 2-port air pump, 2 8ft lengths of tubing...

Cut a notch out of the edge of the cooler for power cord and delivery tubes...

...like so...

mixing the two sections of the Bloom Box together to begin the reaction...

exposing the vent for the CO2...

put the Bloom Box in the cooler with the air pump...

put the cooler lid back on...

put the cooler into position over the cab...

route the tubes through a hole in the plywood above the cab and then through the power cord access through the tent...

route tubes through hook on ratchet hangers on light fixture (exiting above the plants)

another shot of that...

place timer where you can adjust or check...

All done. :)

The theory here is that the timer runs for 1 minute every three hours (8 programs - interval 3 hours - 24hours)

CO2 is heavier than ambient air so it will "pool" in the cooler, filling it up. Since the pump is in the bottom of the
cooler and it has to draw air in order to pump it, it draws the CO2 that is in the cooler/reservoir. So every 3 hours
it empties it out, and for three hours the Bloom Box works to fill it back up.

We'll see how it works.

That is very cool! Excellent diy'ing!

We'll see if it's a sound idea or not....

the x-factors are:

Does the Bloom Box fill the cooler in 3 hours? Does it overfill?
Does 60 seconds of running the pump evacuate the whole volume of available CO2?

No way to really tell w/o a CO2/ppm meter.

But it SEEMS like it should work, and I can't see the biomass-based Bloom Box
generating so much CO2 as to be lost to an overfilled cooler of this size.

But that's a total guess. At the very least, the plants are getting supplemental CO2
every 3 hours....to some degree.

I'm going to make 2 adjustments to this....

1. I don't need the cardboard box, it's there to aid in hanging it.
2. I'm going to place the bag in the box with the vent/exit mesh towards the top of the cooler...
the thinking being that it may need access to oxygen to aid in the reaction so if the vent is at the top,
it will be getting exposure to ambient air a majority of that 3 hours...the lid certainly isn't an
airtight seal. :)

disco elvis.jpgI like the idea to. The co2 will pool and would benefit the plants and if it didn't no harm done...
