I have a 2x4x7 Lite Line, an S6 AC-Infinity Extraction Fan, a DS 400 Advanced LED light. My home is AC'd down to 76* in the winter. My problem is heat. W/ extraction fan running 50% and all lower flaps open I'm still hitting temps of 95* … I vent into the 10x10 room that the tent is in w/ the door open to the rest of the house. This is my first grow in a tent. I usually use a half open closet w/ temps in the mid 80's. How can I get the heat down in my tent ?

Only a couple of ideas, (guessing you tried running the out take fan at full power.).

Is there anything that can be outside the tent .. some of these lights run completely cool, but come with a meanwell or similar driver that can be a factor in adding heat.

Is it your out take fan that's adding heat to the tent? If so, you could try a reverse carbon filter setup with the outtake and carbon filter outside the tent.

Not such an elegant idea, but running co2 could perhaps mitigate some of the heat issue (although doing it properly and effectively is involved and costly)

I haven't tried the fan at more than 50% power. At 30% it sounds like I'm in a wind tunnel and there is no stealth at all. I'll try 100% later today (6 x tent volume per minute) … I have the rear intake vent open and a 6" duct for air coming in the bottom duct opening. Thanks all for the input.

As Blue suggested, get all the electric stuff including the ballast for the LEDs out of the tent. After that, more air movement is the other major thing that can be done, but it can't make the tent colder than the room. If the room gets too hot, more air conditioning for it would be your last option.

It would be beneficial to crack open a window when venting into same room. I've had my filter outside my tent for a long time and always have incoming fresh air close by.

Regarding tent flaps and passive intake, ideally you want the low flap open across from the extracted air which should be at top of tent. Yeah, it's time to run the inline fan on a higher setting. You can check out mufflers to help quiet the fan noise.

I have a Vevosun Filter arriving today … hopefully I can slip it directly onto the fan's intake w/o a connector. Maybe that will quiet things down some so I can run the fan closer to wide open. Gonna check my thermometer too. Thanks all for the input .

I've been thinking about replacing the light w/ 2 COBs for the heat reduction … any input would be appreciated …

Dunno, I have no applicable experience. I will be interested to hear what others have to say.

However, unless your COBs are significantly fewer watts from the wall, I doubt that the change would help enough to justify the cost. In fact, if the COBs incorporate their ballasts in a way that prevents moving them out of the tent, which most of the individual COBs do, you may get more heat in your tent than if you moved your existing ballast out of the tent and stuck with your existing lights. If it were my decision, I would be moving my existing ballast first before considering individual COBs. OTOH, if you are keen on an upgrade to the light anyway, and you expect to be able to reduce wattage significantly, the COBs may be worth a look.

Good luck with the decision. :goodluck:

It will be a learning experience for me too … I've been using the current light for about 6 years and bought the tent to fit it. Never imagined the heat would be a problem. The COBs I'm considering are 60 watts each x 2 to replace 360 watts at the wall quality LED. Plus no Light Fixture fan noise. I have two very happy 2 week old Think Bigs going ...
