Hi Folks!
Hoping to get some people to go along the ride with me on my 2nd grow, particularly to help me correct some mistakes along the way!
(See first grow here: Sunny South Africa 1st Grow...it's a year old but i'm still busy posting all the photos to the thread)

It's early spring down here and I'm doing another coco/soilless grow that will utilise sunlight with a small supplement of CFL light in the evenings.

Start date: 13 August

Strains:
Grape Muerto
Sweet Tooth
White Moscow
Fast Ryder I (this one will be 5 days behind the others - since the first seed never germinated so I germinated another seed/planted 18 August).

Hope you guys like macro photos, cuz these first few days are going to be full of them :)

These images should speak for themselves as they are labelled - just note that the measurements are in millimeters.

13 August - put them in germ trays. Temps inside are still chilly so I used a modem to heat the substrate (thanks Ronin for your germination guide/ideas!).

17 August - they are fully popped, but the Fast Ryder didn't ever make it so you'll see a different photo of that one later.

17 Aug - White Moscow, Sweet Tooth and Grape Muerto (in that order)

21 August - The replacement Fast Ryder has broken through, plus White Moscow, Sweet Tooth and Grape Muerto (in that order)

And we're all caught up!! thanks so much for looking, more to come every 2-3 days.

Thanks Wiltstone, good to know; I was very worried about it coming out like that. I'll pay some special attention to the photos of this one's leaves over the next coming weeks if it keeps this look.

August 25th (Day 9) - off to a slow start with these girls. Nothing wrong happening, but just slow. One of two scenarios:
1. Temps haven't warmed up. Only reaching about 24C in daytime. Weather forecast shows temps will start rising to 28C daily in the next week, though.
2. Daylight not long enough. Direct sunlight only achieved 8:30am to about 5pm (so about 9 hours tops).

Experts: Which of these two factors are most likely leading to the slow start?

Misted and watered today...some pics for all to enjoy :)
White Moscow (Day 9), Sweet Tooth (Day 9), Grape Muerto (Day 9) and Fast Ryder (Day 5)

It looks to me like they are just concentrating on the roots. If you give it 3 or 4 more days they will probably start to explode with growth. How cold at night is it getting? I don't water everyday so I can't say if they look like they are overwatered. Someone with more auto experience should chime in on your situation

Hi Wiltstone,
I take them inside at night, indoors it only drops to about 18C. Weather is warming up though, now!! Getting highs of 27C for the past few days! Still only getting about 8-9 hours of sunlight and then I put them under grow lamps for an additional 2 hours before letting them go to bed. (grow lamps in garage - would prefer not to leave them there overnight as crime/theft is an issue here). They are starting to pick up speed WRT growth, but unsure if it's the temps warming up or if it's due to entering vegetative stage. (My tomatoes are beginning to explode as well!!!)

Update with pics -
these will probably be the last macro photos I post until the girls begin to show sex and/or flower - not much to look at up close until then!!
August 29th - (Day 13) -

I would say both the temps and short days are making the start slow but they are starting to take off but they are still well within the normal range. Remember small plants only use small amounts of nutes so go slow if you've started feeding. We have to get a coco grower to sub in for some more exact advice
