Holy cow! I can't seem to get much luck on starting my beans. I do have rock wool squares ordered. I am hoping things will go better with the wool.

If you want to try a few methods in future I'll give you my steps. I start my with seeds in a shot glass on top of a warming pad for roughly 12 hours and then transfer to paper towel on ceramic dish inside plastic zip bag on warming pad. I mix some Rhizotonic and water and spray the seeds when moisture is needed. Hang in there, you will figure it out.

we all guilty of giving up to soon on a seed.even if you been playing about with it for a week, put it in soil and give it another week.got nothing to lose but a lil time.
sometimes cubes/plugs need soaked in a ph ? for 24hours before use,its an added complication a lazy grower(me) dont want to deal with.
good luck
:pighug:
edit...starting seeds.what stage you getting to ? any pics ?

Thank you, AutoWonders! I am now using your method above. Last bean never did open completely. I even pulled the cap apart and it still would not come out of the cap. But, one bean I kept till it sank in the glass of water and have put it straight into my coco to sprout under my 2- 20 watt CFL's.

Here's what the last seed did. It never came completely out of the cap. I even popped the cap open and still did nothing. I am keeping the seeds warm as the cup of water with the seed and the wet paper towel all sit on top of my CFL fixture. The seed that was growing just fine, I think I just didn't realize how quick it was getting dry since my outdoor temps have become colder and we are using the furnace more to heat the house. It's just a curve that I am not use to trying to deal with. With all of your suggestions I will prevail!

Thanks, Archie!

Have you tried straight to soil yet?

Yes, Prophetiko.

Seems as tho I was trying to put them in the tent to soon. Kept finding them doubled over after being in there for 3 or 4 days. Now I am using 2- 20 watt CFL's for 2 weeks for them to become accustomed to it.

Keep throwing suggestions out for me. I will get this eventually!

Thank you!

I keep in pap-towel until tap root at least 1/2inch long (just tap) not counting the seed. then I set in coco in dark till break ground then straight under high-powered led & MH, the sun isn't forgiven so I won't be either.

getting seeds to pop sure can be frustrating.i have had periods of fail after fail(2 months).have had periods of over a year with 100% success rate.left scratching my head.if it something i done ? is it somehow bad seeds ? but i germ in the exact same way everytime.conditions are near exactly the same everytime.why a failed germ then ? i dont know.i have had seeds that didnt crack open in the towel,i planted them anyway and they came up.
i dont baby a seed,as its in a cupboard with one or two other plants much older than the new seedling.it wears a clear plastic cup for a day,it is 2 feet further away from the light than my other plants.
the hardening off techneque may work for other plants or photoperiods, but for autos i think they need to get on with the job of growing and growing fast as they are autos.
wednesday night, seed in a glass of water.thursday night i dont care if the seed sank or not its into a wet paper towel in a sanwich bag with a big chuff of breath to get the steamy action started straight away.friday night if theres a tail plant it,if not wait.saturday night regardless of what the seed looks like plant it anyway.9 times out of 10 i have a tiny plant sometime monday.on tueday the plastic cup comes off.i have a thing for seeds starting life on a monday though.1/2 inch tap root is a good time to plant for best results.
just my 2p
dont be too down fella cause if the next 97 pop you will have a 97% success rate which aint to bad at all.
keep at it,keep us informed n good luck.
