Struggling with temps and humidity

@southbayrik :welcome: Welcome to AFN:welcome:Autoflowers are like the dragsters of cannabis You can achieve fast success but it takes a lot of moving parts to get to the end of the track.

Cannabis under LED lamps need 68°F night time temperatures and ~78°F days with RH 40% to 60% to thrive. They will continue to grow well at temperatures higher depending on the strain as high as 88°F. Going below 64°F at night in veg will slow growth and below 58°F growth stops. (I have seen amazing exceptions to this here in AFN with plants surviving snow!) Any how we want the dragster not the snowmobile:doh:. Ok RH is really key here and there is a science called Vapor pressure deficit that gets down to the nitty gritty. I chart my VPD but rarely do I hit the target as It moves constantly. So what is practical is to keep RH between 40% and 60% and have good airflow in the space. When you run below 40% RH it is like shoving a rag into that supercharger and she just sputters to a stop. The stomata on the plant close to retain moisture and the plant cannot respire or transpire water and carbon dioxide. The same thing happens at higher humidity as well.

So what does it take to provide this environment to your plants. Starts with where you live. I live in a dry desert. It gets hot hot hot in the summer. This is the equipment I have in my pit.

An oil filled heater (supplemental)
4x6x8 space w/8" variable speed exhaust and filter. It can exchange the air in the space about 3 times a minute max.
16" oscillating fan.
The swamp cooler on the house in the summer
The central heater on the house in the winter
40 QT dehumidifier in the lung room.
2.5 gallon Humidifier (bet you thought I would never get here :haha: long winded old stoner)

The wet towel with one end in a bucket and the fan blowing across it will help until the next pit stop.

Thank you so much. I have actually seen humidity in 20s on a few occasions. I live in central cali where it gets to 120° durring summer and as low as freezing on winter nights. So air conditioner throughout apt.in summer. Is my air conditioner affecting the humidity inside my tent ?

I live in the central San Joaquin Valley so we be neighbors. Yes your AC will dry that air right out. It will be helpful when the plants are big. Learning to control the environment takes years as you go through the seasons where you live. I have a Pulse One and it showed me that taking a shower changed the humidity in the grow space in another room? It is a great tool.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. Its hard when your new and people want to mess with you or give bad advice. Ive grown outdoor photos plenty. The indoor environment provides way different challenges for me.Do you have any suggestions how to remedy this ? Im in an apartment above the garage, so tho its cooling outdoors my apt remains hot so airconditioner runs alot. I could try to seal up my tent better I suppose.

It is a balancing act turn the exhaust system down until you have heat starting to build up in the tent. that helps trap some of the moisture. Hang a wet rag in the tent with one end in a bucket of water and aim the fan at it.

Buy one of these:

Then after the plants get going they will put plenty of moisture in the air and as you get close to harvest you may need one of these. I just lost an oz or more of my Citradelic Sunset to bud rot. so even with careful control dense buds are susceptible. You may not need this because your AC is removing so much water?

yes, a/c is a real good dehumidifer. so exactly what Mañ'O'Green said.
I live in canada and same thing happens in winter to humidity, i'm usually around 35 and 2 buckets of water with rags hanging out(the rag will drain water like a siphon) will get me to 45 humidity. At least mold won't be issue :shooty:.

Thank you guys so much for the help. I see I need to setup my tent better. I just got a brand new humidifier with all kinds of adjustments on it from a thrift store for 9.00 bucks and another oscillatting fan. Im going to seal it up tighter as well. My second grow should do much better. As for my current grow, the plants, according to breeder specs should finish in two days. They need more time. Is there anything I can do in this last week or so to fatten up the buds as much as possible ?
