I got this idea on how to breed autoflowers in my small space, but it would involve storing cuttings for like 3 months. As far as i understand this would work with photo plants and i know you can take cuttings from autoflowers, but how about storing them for that long? Because the plant metabolism is nearly halted, it shouldnt matter if its auto or photo in theory, but does someone have experience with this?

The idea is to take 2 cuttings from all plants(lowest brances which udually doesent yield much at all anyways), store them in fridge until the chosen mother has finished(would grow only the best phenos after tasting the smoke from each), then turn one of the clones into male and make seeds with them and collect pollen to use on other plants.

Interesting concept But I would think they will need some constant light at some point so how would you accomplish that?

From what i read you need to avoid too much light and try to keep them in dark for most time in long term storage, so that they dont try to grow and keep properly stunted and healthy

I haven't heard of unrooted clones lasting three months in the fridge, regardless if it were photo or auto. 4-5 weeks tops is what I've seen done successfully.

I somehow don’t believe this would work. Your prying on the edge of tissue sampling, which is what will make it possible to breed autos they way your wanting to.

Dunno i read quite a few posts like this:
i have cuts in this bucket from the summer.

i snatched 75 (sour d, og kush, jackberry) and they're sill alive as i write."

Then a pic of these.

I cant imagine this working with autos would be interesting to see.
Is anyone cloning autos with good results yeild wise?

I saw someone taking clones from autos on youtube and bunch of other places and clones seem to stay very small as they usually start to flower way too early. But some have managed to get few plants that grew full size. I think its strain dependant and also timing for taking the cutting seems very very important, also hydro vs soil, perfect vs decent growing conditions etc.

Personally i dont believe that autoflowers have some clock tied to time and space that makes them flower at a certain time, instead their clock is biological and during long term storagenthe biological clock should stop or at least move extremely slow. Thats why i think in theory it doesent matter if its auto or photo clone being stored. But theories dont always end up working in real life..

When you say "bucket".. What do you mean? A bucket of water? Just unrooted cuts stored in an empty bucket for 6 months? The pic didn't post, if you were trying to include a pic. And again, the concept is very possible/doable.. Its the 3 months that's not realistic. I've used this technique plenty of times.. After about 8 weeks, the cuts start to break down and the stems become slimey and weak. You can try it yourself. Even when you Google "storing unrooted cuts in fridge" the results give you a time frame/life expectancy.

I didnt try to post a pic as i didnt find it relevant. You can find the discussion here: https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/how-to-keep-clones-for-over-a-month.29779/

Have you tried cutting the stem more once in a while to keep the woulds fresh to absorb nutrients? How often do you chabge the water and do you give it any nutes? Whats your general methodology for storing them?
