Old Reviews Starter PH Meter??

For soil the Control Wizard Accurate 8 is the one to get. Can be found on the web for about $50.

Bro I got a cheap Fastech Ph meter once for almost 25-30 bucks less than a proper hanna one. It worked for 2 weeks and I had to return it, then after the weeks I had to return it again, the 3rd time I didnt bother to return it and just paid for a hanna and ended up wasting my time and money.

You would best get the Hanna Storage fluid for your ph meter, instead of ph 7.0, as while the ph 7.0 will keep your electrode wet and stable, it will not maintain and clean it leading to issues after heavy usage.
You still need the ph 7.0 though, but you can just get 2-3 small packs instead of the big bottle. A 500ml bottle of storage fluid will last you ages. Just make sure you rinse the electrode in soft/RO water and try to flick most of the water out before recapping, so that the fluid in the cap lasts longer.

I keep a spray bottle with distilled water next to my meter. Between readings and before storage I give the electrode a few sprays and shake it off. I also store in the proper KCl solution rather than the calibration solution, but either will work. Like GnomeGrown said, storing in distilled water is a bad idea & it will screw with your readings and shorten the life span of the electrode.

That sucks, bro. I guess I feel a lil' blessed/lucky now to have my cheapo serving me fine.

I clean mine with distilled when transferring, too. I never thought of using a spray bottle, though! I'm gonna set that up tomorrow. Don't like to shake mine, though. Mine has a screw on the back (potentiometer?) and get worried about jarring that around. I dab it off with paper towel. Now, let me find that spray bottle....

Yeah, the bottle is a big time saver when I'm constantly testing while pHing the water up or down. Mine is autocalibrating model without the screws, but I still shake it very gently so I don't mess with the bulb: http://www.autoflower.org/f25/review-hm-digital-ph-200-waterproof-ph-meter-2722.html

Nice review, really makes me want to get one. I'll probably upgrade one day. It'd be nice to have the ATC and the extra digit on the readout.

Just ordered the HM Digital ph200. I'm a sucker for cool electronics. I'm spending too much dough in this hobby...

Sweet - you'll enjoy it I'm sure. The autocalibration is so cool on this thing. It's like getting to play with a toy every time I have to check my pH. :D
