There are times when I don't want to tie down branches but I want to open up the plant in the middle and spread out the multiple colas from topping. Especially plants that are tall and skinny. I havent tried this with short squat plants.
I took a couple feet of surplus extension cord and made a ring out of it. and I can adjust the OD of the ring as well by how big I make the ring and then tape it.
I find this works pretty well and its easier and less chance of breaking branches compared to tying down branches. It's not pretty and I'd like to find a better solution. Some sort of variety of rings that have some weight to them and with a way to adjust them. I was thinking of the adjustable screw pipe clamps but that metal could cut a bud off if I slip.
Anyway, curious if anyone does this too. And if there are any dedicated ring spreaders on the market for garden plant training.
Here is a Fantasmo Express that I put a ring down on top in the center and spread out the vertical cola stems to give them more space from each other and also to open up the center of the plant for more light and hopefully better bud development down low.
