A buddy of mine wanted me to make him a 250w single cob (I told him it'd be better to do more at less power, but it's what he wants). I got the iceled active heatsinks that can handle 400w, a gen6 1825, and an hlg 240h 48a. Put it together, plugged it into a kill a watt. 140w. I triple checked everything, it's all good, but the drivers pulling like 1.2 amps. I got frustrated, smoked some GWK. Went back to it and forgot to plug the fan in (GWK!) And noticed the power started climbing, got up to 200w before I noticed the fan was off. I have 2 1825s of my own on a 120-48a, so I switched them. They ran at 275w. Put the 120 on the single, and it ran at 180w...
So do the drivers monitor the load resistance and attenuate the amp output as a protective measure? The Resistance would have gone up when it got hot, that's when it started drawing more a...

Did u ever figure out what was going wrong? Just wondering cause I was getting ready to build 1almost exactly like that

I have them at my place right now. They are in a shoebox with the driver....2 1825s and a HLG 185. Gonna hopefully have it up and running this week. I'm gonna rewire it fresh and will update close to the weekend. Hopefully all is well...the 1825s are insane dude. They just throw light like no other. Definitely a KILLER light for the dead center of a decent sized tent. We haven't used any reflectors on the 25s either. They have a much wider angle than the 1818s. Get em. You'll be fine if you get the right parts. Have a good one.
