Hey all, recently started a new grow up in some Roots Organics Original that I amended with some dry nutrients, worm castings, and great white microbes at the beginning. Sometimes I've been seeing little bugs crawl on the soil and fly out, also been seeing some actual bigger flys around inside the tent. Are these fungus gnats or what? I've got one plant on day 17 that's thriving, no problems at all and another seedling on day 4 in the same mix with no problems. But I also had a forgotten cookies seedling sprout about an inch out and flop over and die the next day, then had another seedling only grow a small tap root then die before she even opened her first set of leaves. All seeds were soaked in PhD water for 24 hrs then straight into the 2 gallon rain science pots with a humidity dome. Don't know if the failed seeds were related to the bugs or not but either way I need some suggestions on things I buy to get rid of the pests.

It's the larvae in the soil if they are gnats that will feed off your roots and kill your plants. In between waterings always let your soil dry out before watering. Lift your pots to check weight to tell if they're dry or wet. Or you can use your finger and check the top 2 inches of soil. If dry water then. You can use all kinds of different things. Sticky traps in your soil to catch adults. You can use beneficial nematodes. Or you can use mosquito bits or mosquito dunks. Or you can use neem oil. Or you can use diatomaceous earth to top dress soil. But you'll want to kill the larvae in the soil with beneficial nematodes or mosquito bits or dunks. Natural or chemical. Both r safe for your plants. Neem oil can be sprayed on your plants to keep adults away from your plants. Or you can use it as soil drench too. Get rid of them b4 they get rid of your plants.

We seem to be having an outbreak of fungus Gnats on AFN. This is like the third thread in as many days. First line defense (because you can buy these locally most everywhere) Yellow sticky traps, hang all around the tent inside and out. Diatomaceous Earth, sprinkle on the dry surface of the pot. This will hold you over until you can get some mosquito dunks which are a biological control not insecticidal. Break one up in some water for a few minutes then water in to the pot. Repeat if the gnats persist. Get some Nematodes If you do not want to use mosquito dunks. There is something sinister about sending in an army of worms :muahaha:.

I've been using yellow sticky traps and the mosquito dunks this seems to keep things under control I just throw a dunk in my water bucket

first off do away with the yellow sticky pads, too expensive. get the Barn pulls. long strips of sticky material pull out of a tube. they hang them in barns and animal pens. about a quarter of the cost. and to permenently get rid of gnats there is an organic substance in powder form called Gnatrol. add to your regular feed and after three feedings Gone. completely organic and safe to use at any stage of growth.https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Fungus-Gnat...869629?hash=item3d994b89fd:g:JNcAAOSwqwxd9DHL

Gnatrol as Mr Magoo said is great, atm not available on ebay Australia so another product is Tanlin (expensive though but 20ml - 2000 litries so a drop to 2 L of water or a watering can 4 drops)
