well hey all again decided to make a new thread on my second grow. this is the same afghan kush ryder as i grew last time only this time i changed the pot size from 3 gallon to one gallon and i am attempting a 4 cola mainline on it. now i know they say never to mainline an auto, but since im not about big yields and i have more seeds then plant i can smoke i like to try different things. im currently 4 weeks 4 days into this grow. and personally i think the plant is doing quite well.its throwing pistols out like crazy already, so perhaps she will be an earlier finisher. im curious to see how tings develop having only 4 colas tow ork with. i was going to try and go for 8, but i didnt thik the plant wold be able to handle it givin its short growth period. the plant isnt very tall of course, but neither was my other one and that past plant yielded pretty good in my eyes, so time will tell what happens with this one. so far im liking the results, especially growing in the one gallon pot, i find it much easier to manage. and ive already decided that my next grow will be auto cheese from canukl seeds (free seed i recievedwith my order). i havent grown anything sativa based yet so that will be a first. i will also be growing it in a one gallon pot but not sure on the style of training im going to use yet, i have to keep it short anyway, if the mainline experiement on currentgow goes okay then perhaps ill mianline it as well, but that will be a future grow.
anyway here are some pics of the kush ryder auto mainline grow so far.
sorry for the typos, im kind of stoned, lol.

nice beefy trunk and 4 good looking tops
:pighug:
yeah im kind of suprised how well the plant has taken to the sever pruning and training, but this seed was a very strong grower right from the start. im still expecting those colas to grow up a bit more as it flowers and does its thing. its 4 weeks 5 days old i believe right now. but i think its going to probably finish sooner then my previous plant since its already agead of schedule compared to last grow. itll probably be i lighter yield, but the small pot and this type of training really make it easy to manage the plant, its kind of a set it and forget it at this point. i will be very curious to see how the colas and buds develop since it can put all energy into just those 4 stems, i could definitly see growing 2 or 3 plants like this at a time in my 2x2 tent since they take up less room being trained like this. less yield but more plants so things might balance out. ill just need to get a water globe soon to give a little extra water while im gone my two days at a time. but right now its definitly getting a good dry cycle between watering. i just have to remeber for next grow to let soil settle in pot and top up before planting. i find my soil seems to settle a couple inches after a couple waterings. so next time around ill pre water soil a couple times and top off soil to maxamize grow medium in the pot. but so far i cant complain as to the progress. this grow i will be doing a traditional air cure as well. as i know have enough bud to keep me going through another grow and longer cure.
I dont plan on doing much else for any trimming or pruning, probably wont even be doing much for defol, since there should be plenty of light penetration for the 4 stems now. but like everything ill adapt and adjust as necessary as thr grow continues.
really looking forward to trying growing the auto cheese next. that one could be interesting since its supposed to grow to around a meter in height appartnely, so if its a vigorius grower it might also be an interesting candidate for mainline as well.
I really wish i could have pushed this plant to 8 colas, but my gut just kept saying no,lol. id rather have 4 beefier colas the 8 weaker ones. plus for a small pot grow the 4 just seems to look right, ha ha.
Ive also been going much easier on the nutes this time, theres a litle tip burn but nothing im going to worry about. nore do i know if its becasue of too much or too little nutes, but the plant overall is looking pretty good. if i start to see the leaves yellowing then ill boost the nutes but for now im kind of switching between one light nute feeding and one regular water feeding.and will adjust as necessary. im currently only running 1/4 strength and hoping i wont have to go much more then that since theres less plant to feed with this training.

hey all need some quick advice, growing another auto afghan kush ryder , ive noticed some slight tip burn on the leaves and some slight downward curling, and blotchy fading and yellowing of a lot of the leaves. i watered with plain water today and ph'd my runoff and its reading at about 6.3, ive only been feeding no more then 1/2 strength nutes, my leaves obviously arent very dark green so i cant see it being too much nitrogen, could this be a simple cal/mag issue? i have nutes and cal/mag, just having trouble identifying exactly what the plant needs since so many symptons seem to look a like to me.
im growing in soil, and ive attached some pics, any quick advice would be great! plant is 5 weeks 2 days old and into flower nicely, its very short and squat since its a one gallon pot and i decided to try a mainline experiment for fun (not for max yield) if that info helps at all.

So much fun training plants. Who cares about yield if you got enough to go around anyways :smoking:
My auto's turned out fine last time after topping, so this looks like a cool experiment!

What soil are you using? pre-fertilized for X amount of weeks?
I'm not an expert by any means, but this looks like nuteburn to me.
For a plant this small, maby try like 1/4 dose?
Any one with more experience wanna chime in?

exactly my way of thinking, im a single person, light user so i get to have fun experimenting. and im just using a pro-mix brand seed sarting soil. its not overly nuted but very lght and well draining. and yeah i was actually thinking that maybe ive been feeding to many nutes for as heavily trained and defoled as the plant is. what i decided to do was to flush the plant well, ill let it dry out a couple days then then will give one very light watering with nutes, might even go 1/8th strength and will watch any new growth to see if things improve, might mix an 1/8 of cal mag into water as well just to be safe. i just hate how so many things look like they resemble other things when it comes to nute issues. makes it really hard for me to tell.

apparently its come to my attention from another grower that its very possible its also light burn from my light being to close, it was at 20 inches from canopy and its only a 136 actual watt led grow lamp. i managed to raise it up to about 23 inches but cant put light any higher, so ive ordered another grow tent thats 5,3" tall instead of the 4' one i currently have, im thinking that might explain why my plants took off growing like crazy and then just have kins of stalled out and stayed very short not growing much more.. so since my plant has been flushed im hoping a reset of lighter nutes mixed with some cal mag to be safe as well as getting the light a bit higher will help. once new tent arrives ill get it set up and everything moved over. and hopefully wont have such issues in the future, plus the extra foot of light height will allow me to grow slightly taller plants so thats always a bonus, i just planted a new seed today, and auto cheese from canuk seeds. so hopefully ill have better luck with that plant. the current one is still flowering just fine and all. the leaves just are looking kind og blah and it probably wont yield as much as it could have. but ill still see it through as always.

oh also i decided to put my light on a timer so now ill be running 18/6 instead of 24 hours. i dont know if itll make a difference, but maybe a little daily rest for the plant can do some good.

Yeah, lets hope it recovers! I'm doing 18/6 because i feel even plants need sleep lol. Read a research article on plants growing outdoors in parts of the world that never get complete darkness. Those plants put themselves to sleep up to 4 hours a day, even if there was still light outside.

yeah welli figured a lot of other people seem to run 18/6 or 20/4 with autos. do they need rest, who really knows. but i figure it cant reallyhurt anything, and will same some pennies on the hydro, lol.

and heres a little update for anyone watching this thread or anyone stumbling upon it ha ha.
shes 5 weeks 3 days today, shes very short and squat again like my last plant could be from light issues, as mentioned in above post or could be from the serious training i did to it . but there are lots of pistols on each cola so far so im still holding out hope for this experiment. one thing is for sure it definitly makes the plant much more manageable to work with ha ha.
