Hi All,

I've noted over the last few years that I have real depression issues when going into & through the Winter months. I've always been a Spring person for the last few months I have been on a real high, but this is quickly disappearing & I feel the old bullshit sliding back over again. I would even go the prescription route, but my dr is not one to pill things away.

I'm trying to get ahead of the game this year, if that is possible, so I'm open to suggestions as to what others do - natural or otherwise.

Overview - Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern.
SAD is sometimes known as "winter depression" because the symptoms are usually more apparent and more severe during the winter.
A few people with SAD may have symptoms during the summer and feel better during the winter.
Symptoms of SAD
Symptoms of SAD can include:
  • a persistent low mood
  • a loss of pleasure or interest in normal everyday activities
  • irritability
  • feelings of despair, guilt and worthlessness
  • feeling lethargic (lacking in energy) and sleepy during the day
  • sleeping for longer than normal and finding it hard to get up in the morning
  • craving carbohydrates and gaining weight
For some people, these symptoms can be severe and have a significant impact on their day-to-day activities.

Hello i have sad aswell i use a sun bed once a week in winter and it stops the depression totaly. This year i am going to sit in my grow room for twenty mins a day as grow lights are full spectrem so should have the same effect if not better than a sun bed

Sad syndrome, you want a high dose of vitamin d AKA the sunshine vitamin. And if you have colour changing bulbs anywhere , use them on blue when resting and relaxing. There is also light box therapy.

Thanks for reaching out. Important step.

I have been managing my issues with cannabis fairly successfully although that's a very complicated topic (for anyone). After a recent trip to the PNW I met at least a dozen people who were currently or had tried microdosing P. cubensis for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and related problems. All reported positive results, some more enthusiastically than others, but all positive. Maybe that's a thought?

HTH, IMHO, YMMV, etc.

I have honestly thought about this, though I run HPS in winter so would not be the most workable.

Getting the right amount of 'light' does seem to be a big thing though. I have a small full spec light coming from kickstarter at some point, which I intend to put on my desk with a little plant. I'm hoping this provides some necessary correct light. I'll post up some pics when do.

Thanks man, another for correct lighting. Vit D - good call.

Cheers man, I had looked into microdosing a while back. It is a whole other ballgame than the one I'm in at the moment. I'm not against it at all, but delivery and payment wise it is a darknet solution (for me) & too great a risk. I do intend to grow some regular mushrooms this winter, so hopefully I'll get the hand of it & can fork out for some to grow myself.

Hi hon. I have SAD. Up here in North Central Mass the winters can be long and brutal. Some years the weather SUCKS from late October until April/May. (and then the summers can be rainy and poopy) I find myself isolating, and slipping into a "working coma". I get the "Serious BLAHS". It happens every year. I used to live in Honolulu, and never suffered from it. Since moving back to mass I use a light prescribed by my doctor that I use every day and it seems to help a little. But I have the feeling sitting back on my sunny dock on a tropical island with a fishing pole in my hand would work A LOT better!!!
