I always do the press test when I'm not certain. When removing the seeds from the flower and are lying on the table, I press with my index finger on the seed until the sides of my finger touch the table. If it collapses under the pressure then it's a bad seed. If it's viable then it can withhold the pressure and it will go into the container for storage.

Woke up to this today… white fuzz and dead cotyledons

you may need to add a few drops of H2O2 to the seed soak water and the initial soak of the jiffies to get rid of any spores on the seeds or on the jiffies.
Put H2O2 in shotglass with spring water. Did not use h2o2 on pucks… therein lies the problem…

I think you've kept those coco puffs to wet brother. Also the H²O² is always a good idea.
Take 100ml of water and add 2ml of 36% H²O² or 12ml of 6% H²O² to it. This is enough for most applications.

Must be the jiffy’s!
That's why I don't use the jiffy's anymore. They are full with spores and other bad stuff...They used to be my preferred method in the day, but now I use the cotton pad method followed by planting the seed in fresh seedling/light mix. That will prevent most unwanted activity...When they have rooted the plants will be moved into very Biological active soil.
