Yeah that's a great feature, when we started with taking the LED business (LED by Passion a daughter company of Dutch Passion) to the next level in 2017, we start importing LED lights from the states, england, austria etc. one of them the California Lightworks has had this feature from the start, really nice to see the lights turn on/off slowly in small steps just like in nature when the sun goes down. You can even change the spectrum if you want
One of my veteran buddies gave me a little California Lightworks SolarFlare 2014 model, when I told him I was going to start growing. He has a 'black thumb', so I know I have more runs on it than he did. It's one of those burple lights. It's only 160 watts drawn from the wall. While it will veg nicely, the buds are just not as firm as they could be.
It's definitely a quality built light, but it's the tech of the day. My first few grows were with that light and the Mars SP3000 in a 4x4. That was only 460 watts, but seemingly the two combined together produced a decent enough spectrum to actually grow quite nice cannabis. I almost feel there was a synergy there where the different spectrums complemented each other.
I had a little conversation with HLG Tech earlier this week. I was checking to make sure I had picked the right adapter from a AC Infinity to control my light. We discussed the spectrum of my DIABLO 650R and prospects for my 2X4 tent. I definitely like what I see at HLG. I told him I liked their progress into bar lights and I like that they're still improving the quantum boards with their addition of reflectors to help direct the light. I expressed to him some of the options I would like to see on a tunable spectrum for a dream light. He said some of the stuff that I wanted is definitely in the works, but to integrate all that I wanted, I think probably a large percentage of people would too, it would make it extremely cost prohibitive. I figured that would be the case, but one can dream, right? And there's quite sound logic to that. Currently, with the sale they have going on, even their most badass light is under $1000! With the quality of their construction, I think that's quite the value!
With the extremely wide array of models and spectrums that they offer, I think one can find a light from them to suit anybody's need. Properly utilized, we know the quality and quantity of flower is definitely going to be there. We all try our best to refine our growing techniques by optimizing nutrients, media, the environment etc, why not refine the light spectrum? Like most of our refinements, we're not talking about a huge percentage of improvement. It's just the nature of any passionate gardener!
So in the conclusion of our conversation, he pretty much confirmed that supplemental lighting would be key in achieving my goals when I told him what I wanted to do with my SP3000 with supplemental Red. I told him it's probably a stopgap until I go ahead and get a HLG 350 Diablo for the 2X4 tent.
