Yeah, as long as the plants are drinking well, the autopot system works perfect, but as soon as the roots can't handle the water, nitrification takes place and the soil goes awry...
I'm not saying the autopot system doesn't have it's advantages, but it is still a 'dumb' system that doesn't hold into account the amount of water the plant needs. It just saturates the soil...
Isn't that what the Aquavalve and 'floatsystem' is for? As soon as the plants stop drinking, the water at the bottom of the pots fills up, and makes sure the 'float' mechanism stops from new water pouring in. If that wasn't working the pots (and the bottom of your tent) would be flooded all the time..
However it is known that soil has the capacity to take up water via the bottom part and that makes everything wetter than it should (one of the reasons most people used clay pebbles on the bottom). I think they developed something now called an Airbase for that too.
What we noticed during the years is that either the tank is placed too high in comparison with the pots/drains, so there is too much pressure making the water pour in, or sometimes you see the first plant in the line, getting more water than the others (also sometimes the last one getting a bit less). That's the only downside in my opinion, but for the rest it is mostly checking the drains, floaters etc. and make sure the watertank isn't raised too high or too low.
