Indoor RocBudinc Genetics Purple Rolex DWC

Seeds have sprouted and I still have a lot of work to do. I put them in some wet rockwool last night and I wasn't expecting them to germinate so fast.
:baked: :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

lights should be here friday.
I also got my ph/ec meter yesterday. This is the one I bought. Apera PC60 Premium.

I have power now.

I hooked up everything I've got and checked the amp draw and it was only 3.1. The lights are the 135w BlackStar and 2x 24 watt T5's
IMG_20191119_171948_788.jpg

The fan uses the most power. I'll get details on the numbers soon. I'm just glad to be done with that part. Buddy will get the buckets washed and the pellets rinsed. I told him to wash them thoroughly with dish soap, then fill them to the top and add a spoonful of bleach and let them sit for a few an hour two, then triple rinse them thoroughly. After that, he can hook up the air pumps.

I want to add some 2"x 3/4" pine strips to the top of the tent horizontally to mount some power stips to and add one in each verticle corner to mount more power strips. Then I will put as many lights as I can in there, without making it too hot. I would be using LED bulbs with the tops cut off instead of those cfl's.

Day One: Wednesday Nov 23
I have been working on this post for days, but I keep getting interrupted by life, and it does not help that I am having to do all the work by myself. Being that I am spending all the money I thought I would have a little more help with setting things up. I have about $1500 into this so far and I am still going to have to buy more stuff, but I am trying to make sure what I am getting is sufficient for a slightly larger space.

The first seed is up as of 3 days ago. It looks good so far.

The other two are still in just rockwool in a tupperware dish. I think they may have bee too wet and are dead. I will try to dry them out somehow and give them a few more days, but I am pretty sure at this point they are probably mush. They did crack and sprout, but haven't moved in several days. I should have potted them immediately instead of waiting. I really wasn't expecting them to germinate so quickly and I wasn't ready. I have 2 more and I will germinate them when I get the rest of my new gear in.

My basket lids are too big they almost touch the bottom of the 3.5 gal bucket. They would be ok in a 5 gal, but I need a short bucket because the tent is small. I have some 6" lids as I used before ordered they are only 4.5 inches deep.

One of my dual outlet pumps wasn't working, so now I have a new commercial air pump I think its 40lpm and I have 4 bubblemac 3x1x1 air stones. I have 1 for each bucket and 1 for the main res. I think I might get at least one more, but not right now.

I will be setting this up for recirculation soon. I am thinking about going with several small USB "nano" pumps. One in each bucket and I am wanting to have a sink faucet style aerator on each output line. I have to find parts for that.

I would appreciate any thoughts on the pumps. I am really interested in using the USB pumps, and USB clip-on fans. I almost bought 2 Cobalt USB air pumps but went with a small commercial type 40l Chinese pump. It is so loud though... I am thinking about putting it in a freezer that we will be using for our chiller/air conditioner.

I am going to use a small upright freezer, or a mini-fridge with lines run through the lid or the side. The plan is to run water through a coil inside the freezer, to an old transmission cooler with a fan on it to blow cold air into the tent. If that doesn't work out, I might go with a window ac unit and make a cowl and duct to mount on the front of it. I already have a couple of good window units.
We will use another separate coil to run the nute solution through.

I got a new inline fan installed in a temporary position, and I will be getting a second. Its just zip-tied to the top of the tent and the duct sleeve is just cinched around the outlet. My duct won't is here until tomorrow. I need to get it exhausted out of the closet that the tent is in so I'm not just circulating warm air; my temps are in the upper 80's.

I like the fan. It was only $23 and I got an Asurion 2 or 3-year warranty for about $3.
I will be ordering another. One for intake and one for exhaust. I think they will be perfect when I get some outside air moving into the space.

New Fan
195 CFM
28 W
2930 RPM
Old Fan
165 CFM

I also have that new light set up. It looks great and after playing with the controller for a few minutes, its pretty simple to use. I tweaked the veg program to cut a little bit of red out and I have the sunrise, sunset set up for 60 minutes. The light is a little higher than I want it, but I have some hanger/adjusters coming and I will lower it as soon as they get here. I think I will stack that bucket up on something to get it closer today.

I am chasing ph... Even with the constant bubbles in plain water, it is creeping up fast. My tap starts around 8.5. bubbles for a day, and then I brought it down to 5.5 and it was back up to almost 7 the next afternoon. wtf... I also had a bucket of light nutes mixed up to 350 ppm and 5.5ph (tap started at 222ppm) two days later it was grey and was starting to stink and there were a couple of flies in the tent. The nutes are GH Floraduo. They are about 3 years old, but just opened a few months ago when I was growing some tomatoes. The ph down is GH too, it was even older.
I think I am just going to toss it all and get megacrop.

I want everything out of the tent except the lights and the plants. I have the air pump moved, and the air-lines routed, power cord for the fan and lights routed and all tied up. I have all the other cords and wires tied up and routed, and I have my power strips and controllers mounted on the wall outside the tent. I have to keep all that heat out of the tent.

All of the little things start to add up quick, light hangers, ducts and clamps, hoses, fittings, etc. I am going all out on this, but I am in it for the long haul this time. It will be worth it over the next year. I would just rather be over-prepared and not need it than to need it an not have it.

I am done rambling... If you read all of this, please let me know what you think on the USB stuff and the rotten nute solution. That is just weird to me... I've never seen that before.

I just put a Purple Rolex in for a soak last night.
Looking forward to following along.

Sounds like things are coming together, i have tried the micro/nano usb water and air pumps , great novelty value and work surprising well for size but they wasn't built for 24/7 running and all mine packed up within months, like the thinking behind using the fridge..

A few pics. Its the best I've got for now.
First is how I had it with my old light when I planted the first seedling. Before the new light came in.IMG_20191121_181924.jpg

I probably quit growing last time because of PH... Every day it goes up by 1-1.5.

I hope it gets better when I get the pumps and a bigger res going. I bought a cheap PH EC Temp monitor to go in the bucket, but I sent it back. I couldn't calibrate the EC and the PH would not stay stable.

I am really considering a dosing pump

I drew this in paint while I was high. :baked:

This is how I am planning on setting it up. I've never done RDWC, only DWC. This seems ok in my head, but what about overflow protection if a pump fails?

I will be putting a chiller of some kind in the water line somewhere. Not sure where... I also want another bucket of plain water on top of the res that I will keep bubbling. And the res will be outside of the tent.

Getting the recirculation going:
The 5W 40 gph pumps suck. Actually, they don't suck; or pump enough. They had 5/16 outlets, not 1/2 like the box said. I piss harder than those things. I will return them when like driving 4 hours round trip to the hydro store.
I ordered new pumps last night from vivosun on amazon.
Seed/Germination:
I had five purple Rolex seeds and three grape Rolex. I initially put 3 PR in Rockwool in a Tupperware container to erm, but only one made it to the pot, so I put the other 2 in more Rockwool, and only 1 of those made it. So out of the 5 PR, I now only have two living in pots.
I germed a grape Rolex in a paper towel and baggie, and I feel right about that one, I got it potted last night. I have never had so much of an issue starting seeds. I don't think its the seeds fault though. I blame my lack of experience with the Rockwool. It holds too much water.
I will not be using the Rockwool again. I liked the GH or GO, rapid rooters that I used in the past a lot better.
I had my first root show out of the oldest plant the day before yesterday. It came out of the side of the net pretty high, and air pruned itself by last night. I did have the baskets out of the buckets for a while that night while I was changing my water and cleaning. I'm sure that had something to do with the root drying out, but I'm not worried about that. I think the rest of the roots should be fine and continue to grow.

Temps/Cooling:
I have been trying to drill a 4" hole in the floor for a week. My "drill" doesn't have enough ass, and the battery is ten years old and failing/won't hold a charge. I have a bunch of Ryobi cordless tools, but the drill was stolen out of my work truck a few years ago. I only have a small impact driver, and it will not do it, so I have a new 1/2" Ryobi drill coming. It will be here on Tuesday. I have everything else to run the exhaust and fresh air intake, including two charcoal filters.
Temps are getting into the low 90's, and I have seen RH as little as 35%. I need to correct this ASAP, but I am not getting much help from my friend. "We" are supposed to take a small radiator/transmission cooler out of a truck that he has and use it to cool the tent. It has a shroud, and electric fan mounted to it, and it will all come out in one piece reasonably quickly by taking one or two bolts out and cutting the lines. I think its an excellent idea, but I would have to do all of it and take it to the carwash to blast the grime off and clean the inside. I don't know if its water or transmission fluid or it could be AC refrigerant.
I would rather install a window unit in the wall. I already have one ready to go, the tools and wood to frame the hole... it is only 16" wide and 536W/5.1amps
I would still like to make a res cooler out of my mini-fridge, though. Water temps are ok for now in the mid-70s since I don't any roots showing, but this needs to get done soon. He wants to use a deep freezer. It's in the kitchen, half full of food, and he wants to move it to the bedroom. It will only fit down the hallway if we move the washer and dryer. Fml...
I have mentioned a couple of times that it may freeze the lines. He says add alcohol. I say alcohol will ruin the pumps. ("awe it'll be ok")
Overall:
I am not at the point of regret yet, but I am disappointed in the lack of enthusiasm and initiative. We talk a lot about what needs to be done, but it feels like he
He asked me the other day if it would help if he ran a hose into the tent and sat there breathing co2 into it.
He also suggested we put a hotplate in there with a pot of boiling water to raise RH.
He has a VA appointment coming up to get his eyes looked at and maybe get some glasses. God, I hope so, so I can get him to do some reading.
I have been over there every day for the last 21 days doing work to get this going and I still don't have everything set up how I want it.
Pictures coming next.

The radiator:

I had things mounted to the wall, as shown. I have changed it and made it a little neater. I attached a piece of plywood to the wall, and everything is screwed to that now. I can take the plywood down and move everything by just unplugging cords. I will get a new picture.
IMG_20191128_183607.jpg

I installed a simple shelf. I can't access the back half, though. I need to get a step ladder to reach over the top of the tent.
IMG_20191128_183618.jpg

Intake and exhaust fans. A short piece of duct needs to be installed on the input side route, the fresh outside air to the bottom. The exhaust will not have a pipe in the tent. I will run both through the floor to the crawlspace. The air coming in will have a filter to keep dust and funk out, and so will the exhaust.
