I am using soil from my first grow last year and it's working out fine. It was outdoor containers and they sat out all winter. This year I dug holes in the ground and dumped in the container soil, roots, wiffle balls and all baby. I expected the soil was played out nutritionally and microbially and did nothing to amend any of that until I started feeding with salts after they were established.
I am a bit of a light touch with the ferts as I learned last year, and my salts I am using I suspect are themselves a bit played out, having drawn moisture and then leaked from the bottom of the bag. I think this made the top of the bag weaker, as a result my plants are deficient for now but I have addressed it.
I hated the idea of buying even the low end soil I use, as the cost doubled. Re-use has worked out for me I would do it again but in the future I will do some microbial restoration early, and store my salts etc. better.
