I'm trying get to decide if I want to make dwc tote or be lazy and go for 9 1gal buckets

I don't know hydro, but if a tote is what I think it is, and your running different strains, go 1gal buckets

@derek420colorado ....what is the smallest size res you think could be pulled off in dwc??

@iWumbo .....I think that small of a container would be a nightmare. You have to remember, the res is not filled all of the way to the top. There has to be space.....I did dwc in five gallon buckets, and averaged 3.5 gallons per bucket.....and sometimes had to add water to it every single day........

I think it would be the biggest pain in the *ss..... I think there would be wild ph swings (as solution evaporates, it concentrates) and you would be in constant danger of running dry. I'm probably wrong here, but that is just my general impression.

You're probably right. A RDWC might make it a bit easier. In terms of keeping water levels okay.
