Question About Reversing Female Autos

A thread back from the dead... However, FWIW:

You definitely do not want a pollen plant left in your tent. If you do that, everything in there will get pollenated.

What I do is put the pollen plant(s) in another room in the basement under their own led. No fancy tent, no tent at all really, just some white cardboard taped as walls for a bit of reflection. The LED light is just seven screwin bulbs with the globes removed and mounted in one of these:
DiCUNO 7 in 1 E26 Light Socket Splitter Adapter, 6+1 Socket Converter Bulb Lamp Holder 360 Degrees Adjustable 180 Degrees Bending : Amazon.ca: Tools & Home Improvement

I start the pollen plant(s) a couple weeks ahead so I collect pollen at about the time the seed mom is ready. I keep the pollen plants small with a small pot and trimming, and CS the entire plant liberally once a day until balls actually start to show signs of opening. On my current grow I reversed two plants, and likely used ~ three liters of CS during the process. I make my own CS fresh. The tiny bottles you can buy are not the answer in my opinion, although some growers here make them work. I move the pollen plant(s) out of the main grow area as soon as they start showing sex, by which time daily soaking with CS has been underway for a few days. So far, I have reversed Mephisto Fugue State (heavy sativa), Mephisto 24 Carat (heavy indica), and Dinamed Auto CBD Kush (pure CBD, indica leaning). None produced a lot of pollen, but it does not take much.

If the seed plant(s) can be moved, I pollenate it in the other room and then spray it down with water after three or so hours to kill any stray pollen before moving it back to the tent. If the plant can't be moved (as in my current grow), I install a cloth bag over the target branch, and apply pollen into the bag with a needle syringe. After a couple hours, I turn off all the fans, spray the area around the bag down with water, remove the bag slowly while spraying the emerging branch down as the bag is removed. I also start with the bag being damp when I apply pollen, so any pollen falling onto the inside of the bag during application will be killed. I expect that my sloppy technique this time will result in a few extra seeds elsewhere, but I am not worried about that. The branches I applied pollen to with the bag/syringe tech are chock-a-block with seeds. I never pollenate more than one branch, the rest of the seed plant is left to produce harvestable bud. Once I have my pollen, the pollen plants are binned. Even with one branch pollenated, I end up with more seeds than I will ever be able to grow.

After my current run, I will have a nice stash of Dinamed Auto CBD Kush seeds from the last grow, some Dinamed Auto CBD Kush x Dinamed Auto CBD seeds made by @GeorgeCloney with some of my pollen, and Mephisto 24 Carat and Fugue State seeds from the current soil grow. Just to add to the seed mischief this time around, I pollenated a branch of my solo Canuk Auto PK (another heavy indica that I originally chose for sleep) with pollen from the freezer that I kept from this grow's 24c pollen girl - A bit of pollen chucking while playing with the solos... The PKx24c cross should be interesting, both strains are among the best I have found for sleep, so the cross might be quite nice. I will likely try a solo or two of the cross next grow as a test. I doubt that I will need more 24C bud next grow given the size of the two finishing off at the moment. We shall see. :pighug:

Good luck with your seed projects peeps. :goodluck:

Do a few lower branches only is my advice and then use the rest of the plant to make edibles.
Are you saying it's ok to smoke the rest of the plant after putting colloidal silver on part of it? It's my understanding that doing that comes with serious risks....

Different stoners, different opinions. I might use bud from untreated parts of the plant for edibles, but I wouldn't smoke it. Keep in mind here that some peeps actually ingest this stuff deliberately for assumed health benefits. The dosage you are likely to get from using untreated bud in edibles is seriously unlikely, in my opinion, to be risky. However, I have yet to see data on the degree to which CS transfers from one part of the plant to another. There may be virtually none in untreated bud, or quite a bit, or anything in between. Until someone does a careful and well designed test, nobody knows. At least, I don't at the moment.

Whether bud from an untreated portion of a cs'ed plant is risky smoked or vaped is a separate question, and one that you will get arguments for and against. I have more weed that I need, so I will not be using bud from a CS treated plant. Besides, I always reverse an entire plant for pollen, so there are no untreated buds when I use CS.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for sharing this info @Olderfart . I've spent *cough* a little bit on seeds since my auto adventure began and I've thought about just making my own. I have some highly sought after seeds on hand and not spending money on anymore of them would make my wife love me at 100% rather than the 30% I'm at since I started this adventure. Then again, I have hundreds of seeds on hand and 40+ strains, I have more than I could grow in 10 years honestly. But every time I come across something new and shiny my brain says I have to have it :wall:

I would like to know if it's safe. That's the only reason I treated the whole plant to begin with. But until that has been proven I'll keep doing it that way I guess.

I'm sure that in the '70s and '80s I smoked a lot of nasty pesticides and additives including PGRs no doubt. But I didn't know any better and couldn't control my suppliers anyway. Now that I'm in my 50s I'd rather avoid any bad chemicals if I can.

I wouldn’t smoke it man. I don’t even smoke dispo weed because the testing labs are saying 90% of the stuff they test fails for chemicals and heavy metals. Idk, I did enough stupid shit to my body in my late teens and early 20’s. I try to be a little more careful with it these days.

Word!

I don't think it would hurt you to smoke cs treated mj. Article says minimal risk with inhalation. Might wind up with blue face though. I saw a lady years ago with silver deposits in her face. It looked like she was lacking oxygen but she acted fine. Told me she used to drink cs for her hepatitis.

Edit. It says minimal risk with clinical ingestion or inhalation. Chronic use, however, can lead to silver deposits in the face, eyes and other organs. Cosmetic issue, not life threatening.
Worst case you have silver allergy and have a reaction.
