Indoor Question About Lighting. First Grow

Whats up guys? Got my seeds today after about 3 weeks or so. Ill be attempting to germinate them in the next few days. So my grow room is pretty much set up, I just have a couple quick questions. I will be growing two auto flowers at a time, Sweet Seeds Big Devil to be exact. I have a 400 watt HPS light right now. Will 18/6 hours be good? And the lighting fixture right now is 52 inches above where the plants will be. Is this too far away, or is this a good length?

And just one more question, what method do you all use to germinate?

welcome and i put my seeds in a 8oz foam cup of ph'ed water then cover with a larger foam cup and place on top of my water heater for 12-24 hours or till the seeds sink to the bottom then place them into a moist paper towl then place in a sandwich bag and place back on water heater check 2-3 times a day till u see the taproot start to show then into soil but some just go straight into a papertowl in a bag check out http://www.autoflower.org/f5/grow-one-fd-2916.html as for the height of your light it should be lower but not real sure on the height from the plants

18/6 will work fine, there maybe a small increase on yield with 20/4.

Yeah small increase on the yield part , but they grow faster on 20/4 that is.At 18/6 depending on the strain , the plants gonna stretch to much in my opinion , i like em a little more compact.At the light part , make sure to raise the reflector 40 cm above the cups/surface higher and when they start growing larger and stronger you can keep it at 30 cm higher than the highest top from your plants.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Anything wrong with the method of just putting the seeds in moist paper towels and putting it in the sandwich bag? What do you think of just putting the seeds in a pot and watering them?

sniper420 Im really excited to grow the big devil, if you don't mind me asking what was your yield per plant? I also got a Royal Queen Royal Dwarf seed for free. And I got three seeds from Paradise Seeds for free as a promotion.

Sorry for the double post. What is the biggest size pot you guys keep your plants in?

3 gallons is enough for most autos. Smaller autos you could use 2 gallon.

i got bout 3/4 of a zip from the one i grew but that was grown in a jiffy peat cup then transplanted to a 2gal container and and the other 2 died from ph problems due to the peat cup but lesson learned but was still killer smoke and that was coming from a friend that had bout 2 hours of weedeating to do but he stopped by first and it took him 2days to get it done lol
