Indoor Quest for 1 Pound + with Autoflower and Soilponics!

Hey WH! Glad your asking questions! I'd love to see someone else try this.

The wicks. Well I consider the rockwool that I filled the net pot with part of the wick system. I've no doubt that’s the major source of water transfer to the soil. The wicks themselves are nylon rope cut into 28" lengths. The rope was a small diameter, 1/4" I believe so I tied four bundles of 4 together. I pulled about 6" of each wick thru openings in the bottom of the net pot, then O stuffed the pot with the rock wool. The wicks are placed every 90degrees around the pot. I taped the to the sides on the container so that they would remain vertical as I filled the container with soil. The AIT is on the bottom middle and not near the wicks.

I saw this system somewhere else, although it didn't use the wicks, just the rockwool. I figured with a container as large and deep, the extra wicking would help.

Next time, I'll use larger diameter rope but other than that, it seems to be working fine.

The res is fill to just touch the bottom of the plant container, about 4 gallons of water. I drilled a sight hole/over flow hole at 4" up from the bottom.

I use no nutes in the water, this is an all, organic grow. I'm sure just about any soil mix would work. I do believe that using 20-30% coco coir aids in water absorption and retention. Adding the clay pebbles to the surface as much has worked great. the surface stays moist but not wet, it never dries out. I watered it today for the first time in over a over a week, it took 3/4" of a gallon to top up the res.

Thanks pops for the insite. Makes sense to me now.

And more questions, lol. Well just one more.. Are you concerned about the roots getting water logged, root rot, slime, Pythium, assuming the roots make it through the rockwool??. I figure most of the airation comes from the AIT, super oxygenated soil, but would that aeration offset the few roots that do make it into the res bucket and is not receiving oxygenated res water?.

Oh, and are you adding hydro style ph water to the res, like 5.8, or the typical soil ph of around 6.2??. Or are you not adjusting the res water and running ALL natural??.

And damn if I didn't have more room, this is defiantly something I would look into more. But the mothership if full at the current time. Sadly I have all the equipment to make this run happen just need more space!!!...:face: I have the same issue with the grow room temps being too warm, added more ventilation seems to be helping stabilize these issues.

Super nice grow pops!!!...

Hey Corgy! I have never grown in a pot this big, so I have no comparison. However, I feel it is effective in preventing root rot with a pot this deep, I can see where that could be a real issue. So far, my plant looks healthy. i think she may have hot a hotspot of manure, I didn't breakup all the clumps so....
I've got the air pump running a full output. I can say I'm liking the bottom watering setup! I've only added water twice since I set this up. 3/4 of a gallon yesterday. Mulching seems very effective.
She is definitely a she! Also seeing the plant structure opening up as she enters pre-flower.

Looking lanky and dangly........!

What is your initial thoughts on air injection, and how much air are you sypplying?

I got a TD growing in a 20 l Thorny Trappypot with an airdome next to a TD in a 22 l smartpot, but can't really tell much difference so far at day 33 from them seeing daylight, a little more here https://www.autoflower.org/index.ph...s-dutch-large-scale-grower.43093/#post-858232

Update:
Belle grew 10" in 6 days! 30" this morning. This girI is on her way to BIG for sure!
bent her sideways and tied her down I got to tie a couple more branches still. Light is raised the max. I need to take it down and make the hanger shorter. The hanger that comes with the 192x3 Reflector is WAY too long. She's starting to suck up water faster now, I noticed that the res seemed a bit light when I moved the pots to the side to bend the plant. Probably needs a couple gallons of water. She's in preflower now and definitely female, show the show is on for sure!.

This plant is going to be HUGE! The tips have not only grown back towards the light, they are as tall as the plant was before bending it!! I think I'm going to tie her down again then drop the SCROG net on her. I think she's starting to look like a one pound plant! I'll get some pics up after my lady's doc appointment!

I think I'll take my light down and shorten the hanger also, te hanger thaty come with the 192x3 is WAY too long. I also bought a heavy duty rope ratchet as I noticed the one I have one it is fraying and the light is heavy! Going to put a safety chain on it too! I'd be REAL pissed if it fell and crushed my plant!

Hi pop22, your way is so different to anything I have ever done. So interested in what you are doing. I've noticed a couple of thing that have made me go ummm, Thinks I might try that. To right on the safety chain mate, my biggest light slipped off a raised platform that I had it on and it was only the secondary safety chain that saved my plants from being squashed. Hope you hit you target mate.

Hi and thanks! I grow more confident every day! She's just going into flower and already she fills 1/2 the scrog net! I've decided to push my luck too, I'm going to use just the one light. which means I'd have to get 1.356 grams/watt. I'm sure I can hit 1gm/watt so we'll see what happens! But she's already proving the organic+big pot concept as a method for growing a big plant indoors organically!

Man I wonder if this would work on a bigger scale thought of this when I first heard of your method pop22. I'm going to be building my home out of shipping containers so I'm going to have a 40X40 indoor space that I want to design using this method. She's look'N sexy btw

Fna man, that thing is gonna be a beast.
