Indoor Quest for 1 Pound + with Autoflower and Soilponics!

Update: Belle is 12 days old today. Measured the plant today. 6 3/4" leave span on the second set of leaves, 4 1/4" tall. I covered the soil with hydroton ( clay pebbles ) to reduce evaporation. So far, the surface is staying moist but not wet. I think the coco coir I added to the soil really helps. I think there is about 3 gallons of coco in the mix. My other plants are doing well in a similar mix. In fact, I've discovered that when the coco drys out enough at the surface to shrink back from the pot walls, its time to water. I've compared this to weighing the pots by feel and its seems to be a good indicator. Yet the coco in the mix retains enough water that they could go another day or two if needed. And I was reading that as the coco breaks down, it has a lot of trace minerals etc. Another reason to choose coco over peat!

Just added a 300 watt Mars Hydro old style light. Probably at this point, its of most benefit to the Walther White, a
Cheesus Dragon, and a Dragon Kush seedlings that are sharing this space for now.

Someone just sent me a link to this. I asked about putting an air stone directly into the soil while watering. Worried about the soil drying out to fast while adding oxygen to the soil. This is friggin awesome! Im definitely in dude.. How to subscribe..No idea but ill be watching this everyday. My question about this is on FD's sticky on growing in small places page 16. I love this idea. This is going to be pretty sick..
THANK YOU FOR THIS EXPERIMENT!!!:growing:

By watering from the bottom using a reservoir, I doubt you'd have a problem with it drying out. IMO, the tricky part is figuring out if the setup is wicking enough moister to the surface. This is why I mulched the surface of my pot once I felt comfortable I was not overb watering. From the looks of my plant, I must be doing something right...lol! I'll wait a few days ans check the surface of the soil.. If your top watering, just check your soil and if the surface is dry, add some water till you see bubbles appear at the surface.

I need to drill a hole in the side of the res as a gauge of how much water is in the res..

Here a pic with the clay pebbles added:

In on this, Pop. Lot's of outside the box experimentation going on and I'm loving it. I love to get really baked and write down ideas in a journal that I'll try one day when I get more experience. Some of my ideas are probably BS, but theoretically it all makes sense! Kudos to you, good sir!

This one I have planned for months. The idea for the res was taken from some growbook I read. The extra wicks and the AIT were my idea to add. The plant is really taking off now too I noticed, good size to it already. Hoping that a sign of what's to come...lol!

Hang around and see what happens, it may get interesting!

I've also noticed that I believe all my plants are liking my new soil mix. I added a little more to it than I do with my KISS my7, but not much. I added to the fresh, organic potting soil the following: Worm castings, 3 gallons, coco coir about 20%, a cup of Grow More Organic Soil Builder, composted cow manure, lime, and epsom salts. still real basic and inexpensive to make. We'll see how well it does the job!

That's a pretty similar recipe to what I'm going to cook up. I can't find worm castings locally (for some reason) so I'm going to try a soil mix made from what I can source at Lowe's, with a couple of cheap add-ons from Amazon. Still debating the ratios, but I'm thinking around 60/40 HARVEST Organic Potting Mix(60) with some HARVEST Organic Compost(40). The potting mix is a peat moss/perlite/dolomite lime/compost mixture and the compost is mainly poultry manure/forest compost with Biochar. I think I'll need to add some perlite for sure. I'm also going to add some Epsoma Biotone for more fertilization early on and for the mycos. As for Amazon purchases, I'm going with Azomite and some actual Mycos from RootNaturally, and probably some DE for pest control. I'm hoping it won't be too hot. I'm actually scared to start my beans in it, so I'll probably transplant also...going in 7 gallon SmartPots.

Don't want to derail the thread or anything, just noticed it's somewhat of a similar recipe and it appears to be working wonders for you.
