Oh forgot to tell u but this round I have been doing this (used to fill to top off daily) but been letting em go to empty before refilling this round and seems to be working just fine!

Making crazy roots in reservoir this time tho!

Last water I did, I left out the em1 and water ph still dropped to 4.5. Gonna try dolomite on next boxes

The Pro tip goes against what EB used to recommend with the silly trenching crap. They now say to mix the dolomite into the media.

That tells me EB really doesn't really know why they make the recommendations they do.

Recomendations I've seen is 10 # per 100 sq ft. If I still remember math:

Dolomite 10 lbs=100 sq ft. 1 lb = 10 sq ft​

453 grams=10 sq ft​

45gms =1 sq ft​

IDK, I would think they would go by cu ft rather than sq ft

They now say to weigh out one lb for the regular EB when setting it up and now mix it into the top 3-4 top inches of media. That means before the mounded compost. I finally called my Aggie friend, he said 1 lb seemed fine and to mix it well. He liked me adding the yucca to my little tea I make when I mix up the media and amendments in a tote and let it cook.

I made my Solo cutout transplant cups and gonna fill my pots, EBs and set the tent up with heater on to warm the soil.

Question: How long after sprout do I need to wait before transplanting and can the seedling handle the EB already wicking properly by the time I can/need to transplant.
I want to know if I can have the EarthBox fully setup when I transplant..................ie wicking, worms, compost mounded up and Bokashi running.

Yes yes yes and yes! Can handle the wicking but make sure u don’t deal the cover around plant! Leave it cut open til strong enough u can remove cover without damaging plant! Also save room to add fresh compost during grow cuz those worms will multiply like crazy and get hungry! This was solid compost like 3 or so weeks ago and check it now! Looks mostly like worm castings (which I’ll harvest after chopping plant) but u can see how worked over soil is! Worms have it falling out side of the box from all the burrowing etc!

I like to plant germinated seed direct. After I get my box prepped, I dig out about a cup of soil and fill it with a light seed starter soil that I screen out the perlite

I do that in regular pots. If you have the EB wicking, it can be too wet and cause the seedling to damp off. I don't really like to transplant anything. As long as I transplant soon enough to prevent root bound and long enough for no damping off, there should be no slow down. Seedling media will just be plain Roots Organic Original.

I don't fill the rez all the way the first week or 2. Seems to work

Yeah, that's what I had first thought to do. With transplanting, I can get the EB working, bokashi working and worms eating. I can transplant the girls into a fully working EB with little to no transplant delay. At least that's the plan. LOL!
