Hi guys,

I normally find your strains super reliable, however I've had 2 Blackberry Kush Seeds fail to germinate in a row (bought from pickandmixseeds.co.uk, they replaced the first but won't replace another, germ procedure is to soak seed in water for a few hours and leave in a damp root riot cube, which usually gives me excellent results)

Have you had a dodgy batch of these or something?

Hey Tee. I've been growing DP for years now, at a 98%+ germ rate, no kidding! Once though, I had 7 out of 7 Think Different not germ at all. DP was top notch and sent me another shipment. And believe me when I say I do take my germing seriously. It could possibly be some radiation source during transport, like x-ray or something, or freak storage condition that nuked the seeds, or just plain 'ol bad luck. Never underestimate bad luck.

In any case, 2 out of 2 is not really conclusive, it can happen. Can you explain in finer detail your germing protocol ?

The fact I've narrowed down my only 2 seed banks to DP and mephisto after testing a good 15+ seed banks should say enough about how highly I think of these guys. I haven't emailed them directly yet, but do you think that would be the best way to get a solution?

For germing I use a very very weak seedling nute mix (EC of around 250) made up of RO water, rhizotonic, canna nutes, silicon and calmag, that I douse onto root riot cubes so they're soggy but not drenched, leave in a warm (24 celsius at the mo) dark place until I see a seedling. This one was left to do its thing for a week, after which time I saw it had done nowt I opened the root riot and popped the seed in a glass of water, it sunk straight away so the seed has definitely taken on water, i plonked it back in a root riot just in case it was slow, but it's been in another week and the seed is now just rotten. :(

I've had a 100% germ rate since I started using this method, a bit miffed it was 2 in a row, from DP, on a brand new strain.

,I have never had a DP seed not germinate I have a couple that were week or so behind there siblings . I have grown quite a few seeds from DP too. I just use rows of nice gentle two ply toilet paper two plates the top plate just off a bit to allow air. I put lots of toilet paper on the bottom with only two layers on the top I find paper towel to be to harsh on my fragile beans and the tap root. T.P. just falls apart hurting nothing. I use plain tap water nothing else. I put them near the back of the fridge on top and BOB'S yer uncle. That is too bad my friend that you have two frustrating tries but do not give up on the kush I have three and they are growing like CHAMPS .

Tony to the rescue! hey tee... definitely do not put in feed yet. At this stage they are not eating, just taking in h20. Rhizotonic is good, has hormones so it can boost things a bit, I used to do it, but not anymore.

Rhizo shoots pH way too high, so does silicon, so you need massive quantities of pH(-) to bring it down to 5.5-5.8. Plus feed, you may be putting in too much stuff.

For seedlings I go out and buy 1L bottled water. Way cheaper and more effective. I look at a brand that has pH in the right range, and these have excellent quantities of cal mag silicon and trace. More than perfect. I found temperature has a higher impact than rhizo, for me 22-24ºC seems the best. That's why I dont use rhizo, 'cos I get the same performace with good temps.

I drop them in water and bump them a bit to fully get wet, and leave them for 24h in the dark. Then I bump them again and they usually all sink. If not they will soon. Then I leave another 12h tops to absorb as much h20 as possible, then transfer to moist paper towel. Within 24-36h I have healthy rootlings and I pop them into root cubes.
