hi everyone ! i got a recipe from another member n was wondering if this mix is too strong for a seedling. the way i usually do the seeds is germ. them in paper towel then put them directly into large pot til harvest. i am using all feminized seeds. the mix i am going to use is 3 gallons pro mix, half gallon perlite, 1 gallon worm castings,5tbsp of blood n bone meal, 8tbsp kelp meal, 1 cup hydrated lime. i am planning to use earth juice nutes under 400 watt mh/hps light.do u think i will burn them with the pro mix and amendments?

Not an expert, and I use a pre-mixed soil mix, but your amendments don't look that hot in the quantities you listed. Muddy is a pro-mix expert and is more familiar with the amendments you're using. He should be by before too long. BTW, welcome to AFN!

I use Pro Mix but start mine in small pots with just the Pro Mix and some blood meal. After sexing I then transplant the girls into the final pots with the full mix. I've never planted directly into my final mix but since yours in the same as mine, I know it well. I don't think it would be a problem to go right into the final mix as it's not a real "hot" mix. Maybe someone else has tried this before and has an opinion on it.

you can plant into the final pots with you mix but just put a handfull or two of just pro mix in the center where you are planting the seed so for the first week it is only getting the plain promix then the roots will spread to the organic matter thats what i do with a mix i think is to hot. Your soil mix doesn't seem to hot i doubt it will burn. do a side by side then you will know for sure if your good or not. personaly i would not use hydrated lime, dolomite lime is way better.

"Do not use hydrated lime
in TLO/organic growing
because it has negative
effects on microbial life.
It can also take your pH
up way too high really
easily. And, as if that
weren't enough, it can
kill roots on contact if
left even a little concentrated
(not thoroughly mixed)
in your soil mix. always use
dolomite lime instead and grow
green, mi amigos"

Good point on the lime, dolomite is preferred IF you can get it. Unfortunately it's impossible to find here in TN and no one will ship it here because of a crazy state law.

that is crazy well then just be carefull with hydrated lime and make sure you mix it well lol.

thats a weird state law.... wonder what the reason behind that is?

maybe ask around a few farmers to see if they can get it and might sellyoua bag.

I don't remember the details now, something about it not meeting state standards. Maybe Jackal remembers, we're in the same state and we went through this 6 months or so ago. It's over on TMF, I'll go over there later and see if I can find it.

thanks i actually did get something different on the lime. it is called garden lime by a brand named espoma derived from dolomite lime. it is pelletized though. do u think i should crush it up b4 mixing it?
