New Grower Preliminary measures questions for a Newbie

looks like a lot of Fox Farms. my choice would be the Happy Frog soil. what you want with the ff nutes would be the "Trio" and that would be Big Bloom; Grow Big and Tiger bloom. that will be the base set must have for this brand. the Brembe, Micro Brew are helpful for max potential and the Beastie Bloom and cha-ching are strong bloom nutes and once again not needed but will help. I don't use the Open Sesame as it makes more bud sites and I want bigger buds. but these are chem nutes so a flush or 2 will be needed to wash out salt build up and a final cleansing flush before harvest

Happy Frog soil it is! Ok and as for the nutes, I will go with the said "trio" as fore mentioned. Im going to double check prices online and compare them to my local garden store then make my decision. Will there be any other additional nutes/ferts I will need for this soil? or is it as easy as the 1,2,& 3 bottles of fox farm nutes...Thanks!

yup pretty easy.just go easy on the dosage. I keep it at 1/4 strength of what they call for and for the BB and CC I use real light as these are very strong

I think you could possibly mix some regular dirt on top of that happy frog.

I never used "soil mix" like these... but Im aware that it is nutrient rich and that it may even burn newly-born seedlings, which in fact need little nutrient at first instance.

I play on the organic side of the game. As I can, if shit gets real... and I have acess to nutes, I would purchase. BUT, I still would prefer to gather manure instead!
(As it costs me little...)
Also... I cant find these fox trio easily, and if I purchase online Im afraid that it could put them cops on my trail cos its trully obvious.

Im in Brazil and those nutes are imported and also are expensive.

I go organic cause there is way less calculation in order to achieve the proper mix.

Plus I have acess to dirt already, so all I gotta do is to build it right. Adding amendments

Saddly, perlite and vermiculite are "not found all around" and I simply am the sort or low-profile. I pay with cash, personally rather than online. So theres no trails.

My biggest challenge is to make a rich soild that doesnt turn our like mud.

I think one can never add too much bone meal, or cottonseed meal /castorbean meal.

Nowadays im just learning more and more recipes...
So I make a banana skin tea for some potassium (K).

I ran a banana "flower" tea, which I learnt just the other day, that has even Cal/Mag, and higher amounts od potash... and thats all free!

You simmer in low heat, even add a couple spoons of brown suggar. And strain PROPERLY. (So ants dont come to eat it!) Cool and feed! Liquid nute, home made withing 30 minutes.
Isnt that nice? Seriously!
And you get to eat fruit, so its healthy for you anf for yhe plants!

All I can tell is that its much more forgiving, the plants will show you if they need more nutrients.

The good side of the whole thing is that my planta are not STINKY.

I can bet you that if I fed it with powerfull badass nutes it would be the DANK! And I dont look for it.

Im actually stunning my girls. (Stressing a little, too trying to achieve rodelization) :-$

I think about the cannabis as any plant.
They need sun+water+soil.

The amount of sun, water and nutrients might even lock it growth. So we try to provide all thr primary and secondary macro nutrients... micronutrients are important just as much, but in the end, it tends to survive, no matter what.

So you take some care of it, it will grow more beautifully than it would, "abandoned", or with low maintenance.

Each successive grow teaches you a couple lessons. So worry you not!

As I see, youre good to go. And the whole thing is pretty much happening already.

Ill be watching your journal to learn with you, how to feed the trio nutes.

Do as the other chap said... start VEEERY EASY with that.

He said 1/4 strenght.

I would go 1/8.... 1/6...1/4... 1/3... 1/2.

If you exagerate, the plant may stunt, become "crispy" and you will want to kill yourself.

Once I fed a 4-6-6 foliar nute to my plants (not cannabis). I did like veeeery diluted and the result was good.

Then, I added like 1/2 dose... and a beautiful medicinal herb called "mastruz" or also "herva de santa maria", which is a natural medicine to kill worms. Died really bad! It suffered for months with stunted growth. And only now its collapsing to spider mites.

What I want to mean is that EVERY SPECIE is tolerant to nutes on its own way. And it happen to vary between cannabis strains as well.

I just dont want to see you sad.

In vegetative they need a lot of N, some good P and yeah significant amount of K. Specially cause K is who builds up its "vigour".

But you dont wanna screw your plants. Specially after you purchased your expensive nutes.

In other hand if you dont apply any nute and leave it be with happy frog mix, they might not turn the best dope on earth. But it wont die.

Less is more.

Im all the way afraid of killing my plants

Im sorry if I speak too much.

:-) I just want you to achieve success!

Speak your mind brother! The more information and subjective opinions the better, thats why we're all on this forum right? Ok interesting opinion though Gabro, with regards to the Happy Frog soil being too nutrient rich off the bat and burning the young seeding. Is there anything I can do to alter the soil that would prevent that from happening?

"Dilute" it with worm castlings... it neuters PH.

You can never add too much of it. Cause worms eat earth and shit it. (It helps them to move through it, right?).

So worm castling is earth, "treated". So one way to avoid ph issues is to give plenty of worm castling to the mix. (Or even pure!) Its not the richest thing on earth but it sure is GREAT for them. Makes me want to have a "worm farm" real bad!

When I fill my pots with soil I always put the rich earth underneath and a simplier mix on top like for atleast 5 cm.

Also... I enjoy to plant the seed with "free-space" on the upper part of the pot. As the seedling grows or stretches, and looses the lower leaves... I fill the pot. And since its around flowering anyway /late vegetative. I can put new soil on top.
In a way to stimulate the root growth outta the "main stem". As you fertilize it again without re-potting.

The thing if youre willing to "complete" your pot as I just mentioned is to remove very nicelly any leaves /branches completelly. So they dont even have to rot. Cause this would be bad and could even kill your plant.

The same "procedure" as when clonning, you clean the branch cause its gonna be "buried".

One hint is to never do this too early. Nor never bury a great parcel of the plant at once.

So leave your seedling be. This sort of thing fits better plants with a longer vegetative period... or atleast tall strains.

This wouldnt suit much a lowryder#1, for example.

You would harvest it without having the chance to "complete its pot with earth"
Due to its extreme dwarfness.

Ahaha there are so many techniques!

You will learn with time... what are the needs of your strain and which techniques could be appliable to each phenotype.

I wish I could help you more!

Indicas usually dont like lst much.

With sativas on the other hand, helps A LOT!

Ahahhaha seriously, forgive me for coming here stoned and speaking like this.

HAHA! You are helping plenty. I'll say this, I am Noob status level 10. Meaning, the simpler the better for me at this point. I think I'll save the worm dung solution for another grow. Ill play it cool with the Happy Frog and see how it affects my seedling. I have some more grocery shopping to do too before my order arrives. I am in need of measuring tools for my Fox Farms nutrients, syringe, measuring spoons, all that jazz. Even more excited foe my new MARS HYDRO LED to come as well.

As I said, EXCITED!!!
