First off I would like to apologize if I am not making any senses I am stoned but here goes

So I have just ordered some sweet seeds dark devils after days of researching online and teasing my self with all the dark devil nug porn.
I am left wondering how tall do these lady's grow judging by some of the grows I have seen she's naturally short but with training she can put out a good yield.

Any way what's got me wondering is some of the grows I have seen she's been planted in 3+ gallon pots and she just doesn't come close to filling them I know they say the bigger the pot the bigger the plant/yield but I have grown some royal queen royal dwarf in both 1 gallon and 3 gallon pots side by side and the yield wasn't much different

So my question to all of you is what size pots should I use I have 5.7 litre pots and some 3 gallon smart pots

Never grown that strain myself but ive seen some decent sized ones 5-6oz yeilds.
Normally bigger pots=bigger plants but it takes a certain skill making an auto fill say a 5 or 7 gallon pot.
The frequency and amounts of watering plays a huge part in training those rots to fill bigger pots.
How about trying a couple in each size and see how it goes?

Try transplanting them at different stages if you're having problems getting roots to fill out.
I'll start in a small 500ml pot for first couple of weeks, then I'll either transplant to my final pot, or I'll move to slightly larger 2-3L for a few weeks, then final transplant into 10/15L pot.

I'll do one transplant if using 10L but sometimes two in the 15L. Doesn't seem to stress the plants at all. All of my soil will always come out in one solid lump.

Some good ideas guys I have thought about experimenting think I will put one seed in a 5l pot and 3 in my 3 gallon pots and see what happens as for transplanting autos everything I have read about autos the worst thing you can do is transplant them although I have seen people do it and have great results

I think the only way I will find out is by trying it I will keep a full log of my grow when I start maybe it will help someone out in the future but for now I will keep looking for more info on the subject and on what you guys have suggested cheers for the help

The more expansive the root base is, the bigger the plant will be in the end, so consider using root enhancers like voodoo or root ex to encourage early development and maximize rootbase. One of the biggest reasons my outdoor photo plants get so massive is 10footX10foot holes means insane uninhibited root expansion.

Aye but some autos seem to produce bigger root masses than others and Dark Devil Auto has produced some of the smallest root masses I've seen on my NFT tables. It's also been the lowest yields I've had but some strains which haven't given't me all that much more have had much more impressive root masses so I think pot size is very much strain dependent with autos.

I'm sure it filled in a bit more later on as the roots keep growing until the end but that's really not that busy in there.

And naturally short?

Not if you do it right lol.....I've seen growth peak at 4 inches in 24 hours with this strain:yoinks:

Very good points! It should be pointed out that what I said earlier is limited to the genetics of the plant. Some strains are just naturally smaller and some larger. I thought Dark Devils were taller strains are they not?

I would say so. Off the top of my head only Red Poison Auto is supposed to be taller but I think DDA is the 2nd tallest Sweet Seeds auto.......not run that many yet though.

There's a lot of advice out there, about how transplanting autos is bad. I've never had a bad experience with it, but there will be some who have I imagine.
If you do end up trying it, a couple of tips,
let your plant dry out in the pot its being transplanted from, this will reduce the risk of over watering.
Let the soil get to room temperature before planting your young plant, putting the roots on cold soil will stunt the plant slightly.
Really soak the pot once transplanted, depending on size of pot, could be two weeks before you need to water again.

I'll sometimes transplant around day 14-21. More so in the summer, I will transplant into store bought compost with some added perlite, there will usually be enough nutes in this to see you all the way through veg phase, so you're just using water for half of your grow. Makes watering times easier for a few weeks, and I've never had compost too hot for an auto yet.

What ever you decide to do, have fun :)
