pollinating a cutting - will it make seeds without roots?

Hi!

I successfully reversed a clone w/ STS and got me some pollen. While i tried to take the pollen to some buds that are growing on the mom, i was wondering whether i can take a cutting from the now flowering mom, stick it with the male, and then pollination happens and seeds would develop. OR, will the fresh cutting, without having formed roots, just not develop?

Would be nice to know, perhaps I just got to try it, because i have enough little branches growing off the mom to where this wouldnt be an issue.

PS: i am doing this with my very first seeds/plant that i had gotten 2 years ago - GHOST TRAIN HAZE. I really enjoy this plant, she is growing heavy sticky bunds and I absolutely love the smell. not a very tricky plant to grow I think. and the smoke is so damn potent.

You need pistols for seeds to form. Maybe the pre flowers could make one seed per bud site but it might just die. If you took a clone and put it in your flower tent at the same time as your other ladies maybe it would root and flower in time.

If the pistils are there to pollinate, it will pollinate. It's costly for the plant to produce seeds, and it's also the plant's main goal so it will prefer to spend energy there over producing things like cannabinoids for instance. I imagine the same goes for the roots. Also, if you're using regular cloning techniques the plant is going to revert to veg and that seed won't mature, it will just root and put out new growth. Rooting a clone under 12/12 is totally doable, but considering that a plant grows most of its root mass in veg, it's another possible stress point that can hinder success.

I think what works in your favor, though, is that it takes ~5 weeks for a seed to mature from pollinating; if you have your cloning setup locked in I would say it's possible to pollinate a clone and have it root and grow a seed under 12/12. At the very least, I say it's worth a shot.

Just wanted to update that my first pollinated clone is packing on some seeds.... Basically just took a cutting from a flowering plants, stuck her in dirty and put her in my male pollen box. I'm pretty excited since these will be my first seeds I made.

The cross is Soma Somango x Ghost Train Haze.
I don't like how the Somango flowered, had issues with her but I do look forward to new beans!!

FYI in the above pic my male is pushed over for pollen collection. I have some aluminium foil under it to catch anything thats falling off.

At first I was a little worried whether i would get enough pollen, didnt seem enough at first. then it all took off and he keeps on cuming.

howdy folks, just as a quick updated, from the above little twig i got about 10 good seeds i think. There were a few extra that I got rid off - they were not mature and the branch didnt seem it would develop much further.

But i am doing this method with a ton of different branches now, will see what i get in the end
