ok so some of you know my situatuion for those who don't have have 4 males out of 12 plants. 1 of which is a fast and large grower out of the rest but its male so i was thinking of collecting pollen from it and adding it to a single branch to collect seeds. but i'm trying to figure a way to keep the males in thesame room but keep the pollen safe away form the females. any ideas?

My idea is because i have a 1000w light i might be able to get away with taking a clear zip lock bag and tieing it over the plants so they can still get light but if they open they won't get pollen anywhere. and when they do open the pollen will be in the zip lock and i can safely let them rippen and take them out of the room to collect the pollen.

then as i said in an earlier post i plan on pollinating the lower branch of one MI5 and one branch of the sour 60 to get me some seeds of sour60xMI5 and some good ol sour60 seeds. then put a bag over the lower branches that i pollenated to keep seperate form other flower sites.

what do you think...any suggestions.

Maybe try a big tupperware container/bin. Cling wrap the top? Keeping all the pollen in will be hard but you won't seed your whole crop.

I keep my males in an old fridge with a trouble light and a CFL.

Keep it simple after all.

yeah. worst comes to worst i'm going to hang a couple of our lamps around the house upside down and slap a few of the biggest cfls i can put on them....

Bailer with your experince with sour60's...how long between the time you see sacks and the time they open? so i have an idea of how long i got to get the thing to quarantine them? Or anyone for that matter if you know

This is Not 100%..but it will stop Most accidental sprinkling.

Take a couple of sheets of a tabloid newspaper..make a thin 1/4 inch fold..twice..on two of the open ends..and staple down.

Put the Bag..over the males head..
crumple it in and tie to his stem.

Remove any flowers below the bag..just cut them off.

Leave the bag in place for 48 hours..then remove.

When you want to pollenate your girl...slip the bag straight over her head..give a little shake...job done.

Simple but effective.

Don't use polythene...the transpiration..moisture from the plant will probably kill the pollen...it cannot escape in plastic..
but..
will in paper.

No newspaper...?..use a bagette bag..the paper type.

On my Outdoor condition..
once the balls start to develop a stalk and start to drop..I have 4-7 days before they will open and start sprinkling..
But..
under lights..you could be faster.

Everything that's been said has merit. Gonna have to try your idea Wiz. There are a couple cheap options I use. 1. Since I'm only needing to develop the sacs all that hps light is a waste. A 23 or 26 watt cfl is sufficient. If I can isolate him I do. If not proceed to step 2. I go grab a garbage can. One of the bigger ones and plop his nasty arse in there. Only a hurricane force wind brought on by the complaining of my girl or my mom could get the pollen out of there. The plastic bag idea isn't so good really. You'll prolly ruin every bit of pollen he puts off. As far as how much time you have. That's debatable because if you stress the plant you can make him mature a lot faster. Isolate him, put just the cfl on him, raise the temp on him and watch the dust fly. Catching the pollen is the trick at that point. Whatever you do try to keep anything other than the pollen out of your container.

I usually leave my males under my veg light till I harvest pollen but before I had this veg setup I just put them on the window sill. Of course they didn't get as big, but did get big enough to produce enough pollen. A little pollen goes a long way, especially if you are only doing a branch or two. If you do use the plastic bag you'll need to open it for awhile every day to change the air in the bag.
